Special moments shared at Mama Magic with AAKThere was loads of entertainment and special moments shared among parents and their little ones at this year’s Mama Magic: The Baby Expo, which was at the Durban Exhibition Centre, over the weekend. The expo is known as an event never to miss because of its value to expectant, new and returning parents. Each year, the expo brings along fresh dazzle with special deals and features.

AAK has found there was considerable brand awareness credited to being at the event.

The successful expo saw hundreds of patrons in attendance over the weekend, much to the delight of organisers.

At Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital we are dedicated to ensuring that parents and their new-borns receive personal care before, during and after delivery. We understand that this can be a very exciting yet potentially stressful period for parents and we are committed to meeting the physical, psychological and emotional needs of parents during this special time of their lives.

Over 80 Dads and moms-to-be gathered at the Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital on Saturday 18 Aug where they were geared up for delivery day.

An Audiologist, Paediatrician, Physiotherapist and Maternity Sister spoke to the parents-to-be about what they should expect.

“The motive behind the open day is to empower our moms and dads to be participative decision makers in their birthing outcomes. What amazed me was the attendance and support from partners which is so important in this life chang-ing event. A presentation by the biokineticist emphasised the need for exercise in pregnancy and how this aids and facilitates an easier birthing and a quicker recovery post-delivery.” said Sr Kantha Naidoo, AAKPH Maternity Unit Manager.

On the 15 Oct 2018, the world celebrated Global Hand Washing Day. It is a day to observe the importance of hand hygiene and why it should be done throughout the world. Clean Hands can save lives. Thousands of people die every day around the world from infectious diseases. Hands are the main pathways of germ transmission. Hand hygiene is there-fore the most important measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent infections. By ensuring our hands are clean we are able to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. AAK hosted a Hand Hygiene talk during the morning assembly at College Vale Primary School. Clinical Facilitator Kerissa Naidoo addressed the younger learners about the importance of hand hygiene with a demonstration of the technique and also spoke about nutrition and meals to boost the immune system.

Sr Naidoo (CF) said “ As CF my role in the public eye is to educate and inform community members on the dangers of not practising proper hand hygiene and that infectious diseases can be prevented.” AAK looks forward to continually play a role in educating the community and combat preventative infectious diseases.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), trauma is a major cause of death and disability across the world.

WHO research has shown that at least 50 percent of road deaths occurring in developing countries could have been prevented with effective interference after trauma has occurred, that is:• immediate pre-hospital care• adequate knowledge of handling emergency situations (involves training of personnel)• adequate supply of pre-hospital care equipment and facilities (enough ambulances and other medical supplies).

Commemoration of World Trauma Day emphasises the impor-tance of saving and protecting a life during the most critical moments and preparing and applying critical measures to deal with and avoid trauma fatalities. Together with Medical Emer-gency Training & Services, AAK participated in creating aware-ness of World Trauma Day and Injury Prevention Measures by hosting a free seminar on the Essentials of First Aid Child Care.

AAK has recognised the need for community empowerment & health related education, and together with METS will be hosting various Essential First Aid & CPR Courses which will be facilitated by a medical healthcare professional.
