oday, there are two innovative experts with the same fi ery vision, bravery and relentless spirit as many

infl uential visionaries before them. They have dedicated their lives to the noble pursuit of creating the perfect smile by advancing the fi eld of cosmetic dentistry by leaps and bounds. They have established a brand aligned with their idea of excellence, integrity and aesthetic style. They are the Smile Stylists — Drs. Jason and Colleen Olitsky — dental school sweethearts who collaborated their common passion to become pioneers in the advancement of cosmetic dentistry. Fast-forward fi ve years after graduating from Temple University School of Dentistry, and they are two of the industry leaders called upon to offer their extensive knowledge to national magazines, broadcast news, nationwide lectures and clients seeking the ultimate smile transformation. They embrace what was thought to be impossible by using a conservative, minimally invasive, contemporary approach to reveal healthy, natural smiles — and prove it can be done with precision. The Olitskys’ Smile Stylist® brand is shaping the future of cosmetic dentistry by raising the bar of distinction and setting

a new gold standard. Their combined purpose is to make Smile Stylist a new standard for cosmetic dentistry, and their goal is to change lives by restoring and producing a confi dent smile. It has been said the eyes are the windows to the soul. If the eyes are the windows, the smile must be the set of double doors. A smile can speak volumes without saying a word. A smile is a gift. Drs. Jason and Colleen Olitsky give their clients the present of a radiant smile so they can fl ing open their double doors and let their light shine. Their meticulous work is a testament to their quest for beauty excellence. People come from all over the country to have a smile makeover performed by the Olitskys, style aces who use the latest technology with extreme precision and have a sincere commitment to achieving a purely natural look.

JLL: What is a Smile Stylist?

Dr. Jason Olitsky: We coined the term Smile Stylist to refer to a dentist who has the passion and expertise for improving the quality of lives through smile makeovers. Our goal is to

license the name Smile Stylist to those dentists who have continually advanced the art of smile makeovers — those who have embraced both the creative and artistic aspects of this skill. We want Smile Stylist to become a household brand name, so when a prospective patient is searching for a dentist to perform their smile enhancement procedure, they’ll search for a Smile Stylist, not a “cosmetic dentist.” Dr. Colleen Olitsky: We live for smiles and truly love what we do. Our mission is to promote, provide and maintain beautiful and natural-looking smiles. We feel like patients need to get the feeling that their dentist knows what looks good and be able to trust them to treat their smiles. Smile Stylist changes the way dentists are portrayed by making the dentist a figure with style and personality; the type of person you would want addressing sensitive concerns related to the look of your face.

JLL: What smile enhancement procedures do you specialize in?

Drs. Jason and Colleen Olitsky: Porcelain veneers, general dentistry full-mouth rehabs, bonding and contouring, gum lifts, minimal and no preparation veneers, composite veneers, conservative back-tooth dentistry, Invisalign, BOTOx, and fillers.

JLL: Describe the process of the guest experience. Drs. Jason and Colleen Olitsky: We are truly an authentic brand. A patient who sees our ad will feel the same emotion from our website to the first phone call, the visit to our office, as well as when they meet us. Our enthusiasm for what we do is felt through every touch point. You are given a tour of our dental studio and then we sit and discuss your personal

goals. Understanding and managing expectations is an incredibly important part of our process. We then take the patient to our photo studio and shoot a few pictures to view on the computer screen together so we can further discuss their smile. Next, we show them a number of before and after pictures reflecting similar issues. Because there is a treatment plan to fit anyone’s budget, we discuss the recommended solution to create a perfect smile.

JLL: Why did you choose to be entrepreneurs of cosmetic dentistry? Drs. Jason and Colleen Olitsky: Smile Stylist is a platform for change. We feel like smiles are vastly underrepresented in media for the importance that we place on them in our culture. Many surveys have highlighted this fact. By doing things like working with publicists, writing books, developing

products and managing models with beautiful smiles, we are working toward getting more representation of smiles in national media, similar to hair, skin, makeup and clothing, in hopes that it will raise awareness with people to take better care of their oral health. Currently only about 20 percent of the U.S. population goes to the dentist regularly, and many systemic, life-threatening illnesses are exacerbated by poor oral health.

JLL: What is your favorite part of this profession? Dr. Jason Olitsky: The best part is being able to dramatically change people’s lives — watching someone’s personality emerge after their smile makeover. It’s amazing to see their confidence grow and be able to smile and laugh without being embarrassed. We celebrate the change by giving them a photo shoot where they let their inner smile come out. We

become a part of their new life. Dr. Colleen Olitsky: I realize that I am different than most other dentists. Although I have the education and experience working on smiles, teaching and lecturing, I am naturally able to connect with people when evaluating their smiles and know what looks beautiful, natural and unique. I enjoy relating with people on an emotional level and using my knowledge and experience to make people happy.

JLL: What advice do you have for someone choosing a cosmetic dentist?

Drs. Jason and Colleen Olitsky: Since cosmetic dentistry is not a regulated term, any dentist can perform veneer and other smile makeover enhancements with little to no special training. Since there is no specialty or regulation, like plastic surgery or facial plastic surgery, for which dentists can perform smile makeovers, Smile Stylist attempts to create that change

by facilitating consumer research when choosing a dentist to treat their smiles.Dr. Jason Olitsky: Your dentist should consider factors such as lips, skin surrounding the mouth, mouth shape, bite configuration, size, health of teeth, gum line, color of teeth, face shape, skin tone and much more. Simply look at their previous work for smiles that appear natural, like they were born with them. A cosmetic dentist is an artist who should appreciate the nuances that make each smile unique — someone who has the exceptional skills to custom tailor your look. “Smile design” is what those in the industry call the unique art of transforming problem teeth into a flawless smile. An inspired cosmetic dentist looks at each smile as a potential work of art, each with its unique challenges and distinctive characteristics.Dr. Colleen Olitsky: The dentist’s lab should be of the highest quality. Visit the lab’s website and look through their portfolios. A dentist should be excited about the materials the

practice uses and happy to tell you the name of the lab and the ceramist who produces them. You want these materials to be natural looking and long lasting to provide a beautiful smile that endures. The ceramist will be the other person besides your dentist who will make and design your new look. Also, fi nd a professional who will truly listen to your hopes and desires. We frequently see patients getting smile treatments who have gotten very frustrated with their dentist’s inability to meet their expectations. You deserve someone who will give you personalized care and customized treatment.

JLL: What are the benefi ts of porcelain veneers?

Dr. Jason Olitsky: Veneers can be the best way to achieve that “wow” smile. Veneers are ultrathin, custom-made porcelain pieces that are permanently bonded to the teeth. They have become increasingly popular and provide a durable option for changing the size, shape, position and color of teeth. Veneers are used to close gaps, straighten teeth, replace worn edges and resurface discolored teeth. They can even correct bite problems that are destroying the teeth.Dr. Colleen Olitsky: Advanced techniques allow dentists to mimic and enhance nature, making veneers look like teeth, not veneers. When we perform a smile design, our clients’ friends and family think they look different, better or younger, but either they cannot determine why or they think they just got their teeth straightened or whitened. Because the smile looks so natural, it never occurs to others that the teeth are veneers.

JLL: Why do people choose you over other cosmetic dentists?

Dr. Colleen Olitsky: We are sought after for natural-looking cosmetics. We strive to mimic nature. We see at least one patient a week that had cosmetics done and are unhappy with the results. Revisions account for about 25 percent of our work. Our goal is to decrease this to zero by raising awareness about researching a dentist the fi rst time around. Dr. Jason Olitsky: Through our extensive training and education, we teach other dentists contemporary cosmetic treatments. I am a clinical adjunct faculty member with the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, where I teach dentists smile makeover and full-mouth rehabilitation hands-on using clinical mastery. We have a unique style that is more appealing for some patients who are beauty and health focused. Our studio has the privilege of working with the talented ceramists at Gold Dust Dental Lab in Tempe, Arizona. These ceramists have styled the teeth of superstars and models, and do the ceramics for some of the best dentists in the country. Our passion for smiles is obvious,

and our patients fi nd that comforting. We also get very good reviews for our relationships with our patients and our attention to aftercare.

JLL: What is your life philosophy?

Dr. Jason Olitsky: We have read many books on personal growth and positive attitude and have learned not to just let life happen, but to create our future. We work very hard in the business as well as our personal lives. We believe in balance. We only see patients three days a week and spend time with our son, Chase, the other four days. We try to appreciate every day and always be positive. We love what we do and who we are.Dr. Colleen Olitsky: Family is most important to us. Every success book and autobiography we have ever read discusses spending time with your loved ones. When we are not seeing patients, working on other projects or spending time with family, we can be found at the beach. We love the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club and spend a lot of time at the pool and beach there. We are also avid boccie ball players. It gets pretty competitive, but is always a blast.
