President’s Message
In last month’s newsletter, I stated that one of my goals is to make our jewel of Fremont, our exquisite Olive Hyde Art Gallery, more visible and well-‐known to the residents of Fremont, Newark, Union City, and neighboring cities. To support that goal, we have submitted a request to the City of Fremont, Art Review Board, for funds to improve the overall appearance of the Olive Hyde Art Center & Gallery by inclusion of new art, and dedication of an art work (possibly a bust) to its founder, Miss Olive Hyde.
We are encouraged by the invitation of the Art Review
Board to attend their next Board meeting to state our case. Two OHAG Board members will attend the next Art Review Board meeting to present our proposals for their consideration. I will keep you posted on the development of this great OHAG team effort. Enthusiastic Committee Chairpersons for our Annual Holiday Show & Sale in December have already kick-‐started their work, planning for our annual fundraiser, the Gala and Holiday Show & Sale, on December 1-‐3, 2017.
Our Artist Contact Committee has screened over 40 new artists for our Holiday Show. At this time, we expect about 90 artists (new and returning artists) to participate in our Holiday Show & Sale, bringing in their original art work in the categories of painting, ceramics, glass, fiber art, jewelry and holiday-‐themed pieces. If you want to be first to do your Christmas shopping among these original art works, please mark your calendars, save the dates, and get your credit cards ready!
Every year, putting on our Gala extravaganza and Holiday
Show & Sale involves a gigantic TEAM effort of every member of Olive Hyde Art Guild. The Scheduling Committee has listed all the volunteer jobs, hours & types of work needed to support this annual fundraiser.
This year, we are introducing a new, user-‐friendly way for you to sign up for volunteer jobs. The popular online tool, Sign Up Genius, will be rolled out next month to help you sign up for your volunteer time-‐slots in a clear and simple manner, for as many volunteer jobs and time-‐slots as you please. Please keep an eye out on your emails! The email introduction of Sign Up Genius, and clear instructions on how to use it, will be coming to your email inbox very soon!
I want to thank all of our hard working Board members
and Committee Chairpersons for rolling up their sleeves and getting started on the preparations for our Gala and Holiday Show & Sale. I also want to invite all of you, OHAG members, to pitch in with your time and commitment to make this 2017 Gala and Holiday Show & Sale the best ever! Sophia Liu, President OHAG
