    FLOOD RECOVER WORKS UNDERWAY

    SEQ Catchments worked with both State andFederal Governments to secure assistance tohelp farmers to rectify flood damage. TheState Government provided the moneyneeded to take river restoration specialists tothe sites and work with SEQ Catchments todevelop restoration plans. and the Federal

    Government, through its Caring for OurCountry program, provided funding toundertake the restoration works.Toogoolawah farmer, Bill Gulbransenexperienced significant damage to hisproperty , which fronts the upper Brisbane River, during the January 2011floods. This erosion and slumping

    of the rivers banks resulted in significant loss of productive land, fencing andirrigation equipment. Major earthworks were undertaken to batter the banks and

    Toogoolawah PastureManagement Field Day As partof SEQ Catchments ongoingsustainable grazing program aPasture Management Field Daywas held at ToogoolawahShowgrounds on Friday 4 th May.It was supported by fundingthrough the AustralianGovernments Caring for our Country Achieving groundcover targets in SEQ project and was

    attended by over 25 local land-holders. The day focused on managing and monitoring native and sown pasturesto maintain good land condition. The Presenter, Damien OSullivan from theDepartment of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation led thediscussions on many topics which covered basics of grazing management, theprinciples to balance pasture growth and how to use indicator species to assessand monitor pasture condition, plus many other crucial factors necessary formaximising sustainability and profitability of a grazing business.
