Pieced Blocks

1. Place one 3⅞˝ Fabric A square on top of one 3⅞˝ Fabric Nsquare, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonalof the top square (Fig. 1). Sew ¼˝ away from each side ofthe drawn diagonal line (Fig. 1). Cut the two squares aparton the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 2) to make two half-squaretriangles (Fig. 3). Press the seams toward Fabric N. Trim theblocks to measure 3½˝ square. Repeat to make ten Fabric A/Nhalf-square triangles total. You will only need nine for thequilt top.

NOTE: Half-square triangle blocks are made in pairs, so you will need to make ten blocks even if you only need nine squares. Please remember this when making the following blocks.

2. Repeat Step 1 to make the following half-square triangles:(9) B/N (9) C/N (10) D/N (9) E/N(10) F/N (9) G/N (10) H/N (9) I/N(9) J/N (9) K/N (10) L/N (16) M/N

3. Sew together four L/N half-square triangles, four A/Nhalf-square triangles and one 3½˝ Fabric A square to makeone 9½˝ star block (Fig. 4).

4. Repeat Step 3 referring to the Block Diagram for fabric placement to make a total of sixteen assorted star blocks.At this point the blocks should measure 9½˝ square.

5. Using the Block Diagram asa guide, sew four star blocks to-gether for the first block row.Repeat to make each row(4 total). Press the seams open.

6. Sew the block rows together tomake one 36½˝ x 36½˝ quilt top.Press the seams open.

7. Measure the length of the quiltand trim two 2˝ Fabric N stripsto that length. Sew or sides of thequilt. Press seams out (towardborders). Measure the width ofthe quilt and trim the remain-ing two 2˝ Fabric N strips to thatlength. Sew to the top and bot-tom of the quilt. Press toward theborders.

8. Sew together the assorted 2˝ x 42˝ strips from the Fabrics A-L, length-wise, following the strip order shown in Figure 5.

9. Cut across the sewn strips to make eight 3½˝ x 18½˝ piecedborders (Fig. 6).

10. Sew together two pieced borders and one 3½˝ Fabric M square tomake one side border (Fig. 7). Repeat to make a second side border.Sew the borders to the sides of the quilt. Press toward Fabric N innerborders.

11. Sew together two pieced borders and three 3½˝ Fabric M squaresto make the top border (Fig. 8). Repeat to make the bottom border.Sew the borders to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press toward Fabric Ninner borders.

12. Measure the length of thequilt, then piece and trim two 3½˝Fabric N borders to match thatlength. Sew or sides of the quilt.Press out toward borders. Mea-sure the width of the quilt. Pieceand trim two 3½˝ Fabric N bor-ders to that length. Sew to the topand bottom of the quilt. Press outtoward the borders.

Finishing

13. Press the quilt top. Layer withbatting and backing. Baste.Quilt as desired.

14. Sew the six 2½˝ x 42˝ FabricK strips together end-to-end with45º seams to make the binding.Fold this long strip in half length-wise with wrong sides togetherand press. Bind as desired.
