What is Sata?
The serial ATA orSATA computerbus, is a storage-interface for
connecting host bus adapters to mass
storage devices such as hard diskdrives and optical drives.

Why was Sata designed?
The Serial ATA was designed to replace ParallelATA bus since it was
not able to meet the increased bandwidth and
performance demands of current and future

eSata
eSATA is an external interface technology that grew from the
internal Serial ATA interface. Serial ATA built upon the
original ATA interface that connected hard drives tomotherboards. eSATA delivers improved performance and
ease of use over the older ATA multi-pin interface.

Conclusion
SATA overcomes the limitations of parallel ATA by providing
thinner cabling, smaller connectors, lower voltage, and point-
to-point signaling. Like its parallel predecessor, SATA will
dominate the desktop market because it offers desktop
reliability, functionality, and performance at a low cost.
The SATA technology roadmap provides scalable
performance and system design improvements that will benefit
end users and system vendors for years to come.
