Thank you for supporting Saint Pats!
Please place your dinner ticket at your table setting; this will indicate your meal selection to service staff and volunteers
Greetings from the Starship Enterprise.
Tonight, we will go where no one has gone before: We will reach new heights by explor-
ing the kind of generous bidding previously undiscovered at St. Pats. Our generosity will
provide the next generation of future leaders with educational opportunities that will not
only enrich their lives but improve their futures. It is that kind of night, and I welcome you
to it.
Last month, NASA’s Opportunity rover finally ended its 15-year mission spent exploring
Mars. NASA built it expecting it to operate for mere months. Opportunity’s amazing run
ended with a final, simple message, “Low on power, and a storm is approaching.” Report-
edly, NASA engineers and coding experts were in tears when that last message was
decoded. I think they were so emotional because they had dared to dream beyond their
own imagination. It was a small miracle that Opportunity “lived” and succeeded for as
long as it did.
Our REACH Auction presents us with an opportunity to do something pretty remarkable
as well--to be part of our small miracle that changes lives. Every dollar we raise funds
our educational programs; offers the opportunity of Catholic education to families who
may not be able to afford it; provides hope for our world because our next generation of
St.Pat’s graduates have been taught to think, to create, to care, to dream, and to explore.
So, let’s raise a glass and get this interplanetary party started. I want to hear some “out of
this world” bidding and to see some storm-raising dancing for our kids.
Special thanks to our Enterprise Captains, Doug and Salina, and the whole fleet of folks
who have made tonight possible. There is a line from the “Next Generation” movie that
captures the spirit of all who volunteered their talents to make tonight a success:
Seize the time.... Live now!
Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again.
Let’s achieve together what we might have thought unimaginable yesterday.
Chris Gavin
