What is an uncontrolled event
“An unplanned, undesired event which causes injury to people and/or damage to property”
(NEBOSH).

Legislation
Section 3 (1) e, Fire Services Act 1947;
“A fire authority may employ it’s fire brigade or it’s equipment for purposes other than firefighting which it appears suitable, and if they think fit make charges”.

Special services
Two classes of special service;
• Emergency - no charge
• Non emergency - charge may be made.

Emergency special services
Four main categories;
• The saving of human life and rescue or protection of persons
• Dealing with public emergencies
• The saving of animal life and rescue or protection of persons
• Requests to use brigade equipment.

Non emergency special services
Amongst the most common are;
• Isolated flooding where life is not threatened
• Standing by at known fire or dangerous risks
• Use of equipment to assist contractors or companies.

• Road Traffic Accidents• Lift rescues• Persons trapped in machinery• Animal rescue• Incidents arising from weather problems• Bomb alerts• Chemical incidents• Ring/ball and chain removal.

Police• Minimise danger to life and property• Effective investigation of the incident• Control and co-ordinate actions of other
services• Collate and disseminate casualty
information• Restore normal conditions.
