Hello, everybody! For those of you who may not know, my name is Terrell Merritt and I have the distinct honor of serving the Seneca Division as its Lieutenant Governor for the 2015-2016 service year.

If you don’t know exactly who I am, I’m a rising second-year Computer Science major studying at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). I joined the Kiwanis family when I signed up for Key Club at the Bronx High School of Science in New York City back in 2011. The passion I developed there brought me to Circle K once I started school at RIT. I’m sorry in advance for the “city kid” behavior you might see me exhibit during the year.

A huge part of what I want to do this year as Lieutenant Governor is allow you all to be more aware of exactly what Circle K is and just how large it is. I hope that this newsletter can be a part of that effort. If you have any questions throughout the year, feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected] or message me on Facebook (my name is “Terrell F. Merritt”). I’m here for you this year, so take advantage whenever you can. Enjoy the rest of your summer and happy serving!

Yours in Service, Leadership, & Fellowship,

Terrell Frederick Merritt Seneca Division Lieutenant Governor

New York District of Circle K International

For this service spotlight, here are some events that our division’s clubs have done with other branches of the Kiwanis family.

During the month of April, the University of Rochester Circle K Club (URCKI) teamed up with the Brighton Kiwanis and Aktion Clubs to produce 60 fleece blankets for the Alternative for Battered Women (ABW) shelter. Children entering the domestic violence shelter with their mothers do not come with many belongings of their own. However, these blankets give them something comforting, cute, and their own, fitting for Rochester weather.

In May, some RIT Circle K members were able to help out the Henrietta Kiwanis Club in cleaning up a stretch of Lehigh Station Road. Despite the sun beaming down on us, we were able to clean up the entire section in an hour, in part because we had cleaned the road together before. It was a nice chance to catch up with one of the Kiwanis Clubs that support us. We look forward to coming out again!

CKIx 2015, the Circle K International Convention and Large Scale Service Project, was hosted in Indianapolis, Indiana, the home of Kiwanis International’s headquarters. Highlights of this year’s convention include: celebrating 100 years of Kiwanis International, spending time with 3 other branches of the Kiwanis family, serving the Indianapolis community as if it were our own, attending fun and informative workshops, and getting to meet Circle K members from all around the world!

“To soon-to-be-mine Seneca Division: You get to have

banners of your face plastered in the streets of Indianapolis. So come to next year’s ICON at

Toronto!”

Lieutenant Governor Edgar Hu (Stony Brook University)

“CKIx 2015 was literally a once in a lifetime experience for me! To be able to witness the

congregation of our Kiwanis family branches and meeting people from all over the world was truly a humbling experience. I made some pretty nifty friendships and can’t wait to see everyone again in Toronto, Canada at CKIx 2016!”
