Richfield Dual Language School

Agency Description: The Richfield Dual Language School represents the first suburban dual immersion program in the State of Minnesota. The school opened its doors in September 2007 with 100 kindergartners. Each year we added a grade level resulting in a Pre K-5 elementary school for the 2019-2020 academic school years. Younger grades are taught 90% in Spanish and 10% in English. Then, the percentage of class time taught in English moves up with each grade, with 5th grade taught in 50% English and 50% Spanish. About fifty percent of the students are native Spanish speakers. We seek volunteers that would like to assist the teachers helping students with academic activities (reading, writing, and math). Our schedule goes from 7:40 am to 2:10 pm. Our Vision In partnership with our families and the community, the vision of the Richfield Dual Language School is to prepare all students to become lifelong learners and leaders in their local and global communities who successfully meet or exceed grade level expectations in English and Spanish through an education built on the foundations of bilingualism, strength of diversity, academic rigor, critical-thinking, and mutual respect. Our Goals • Development of high levels of proficiency in the students’ first and second (or additional) languages • High academic achievement in both languages of study • Development of positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors Volunteer Description: The student volunteer will work as an assistant teacher, working with a small group of students or one on one. After we complete background check out and the scheduling process, the assigned RDLS teacher will provide information to the volunteer regarding academic tasks in the classroom. Expectations: • Please be on time and sign in the visitor’s book and the volunteer book every time you come to RDLS to do the service, and every time you leave the building. • Report your absences by sending an e-mail to your assigned teacher and the volunteer coordinator and/or by calling your teacher to his/her classroom line. • Read the RDLS Family Handbook for information regarding procedures, guidelines and policies of the school and district. You can find the Family Handbook and more information about our school by visiting https://www.richfieldschools.org/rdls How to Apply: You can apply by e-mailing Luis Bolaños, RDLS Outreach Worker and Volunteer Coordinator, at Luis Bolaños [email protected] Please include the following information: • Name, phone number, email address
