History

The company was founded by Robert and John Keating with the acquisition of their first Profile Cutting machine, an Amada Turret Punch-Laser combination. This was soon followed with the addition of a CO2 laser in 2006. In 2008, the company expanded to its current premises which has seen MLCS grow to the business it is today. The company has continued to invest in quality equipment & machinery over the years which includes a Salvagnini L5 Fiber Laser and Loading Tower, along with other quality manufacturing equipment from Amada, Safan and Multicam, as well as Motoman Welding Robots. From concept, design and prototyping through to all aspects of manufacturing MLCS continually strive and refine to provide high tolerance, highly accurate products to ensure the best quality and services for their customers.

Mitcham Laser Cutting and Metal Fabrication (MLCS) is a family owned business based in Mitcham Victoria, with a vision to provide high quality sheet metal fabrication solutions to our expanding client base.

Turret PunchingPunching offers many benefits over Laser Cutting Sheet Metal components. Parts are processed using various shaped hard tooling to press out holes, notch corners and cut contours of parts.

The flexibility of a turret punch and its ability to form parts, such as knock-outs, louvers and embossed shapes make it the perfect choice to process complex parts with ease. It’s also faster and more economical when it comes to processing perforated sheets with repetitive grid patterns.

Here at MLCS we have an extensive tool library to suit many applications. We can also design custom tooling for your specific projects, so no matter what the application is we will find a solution.

If you have any questions or require advice on whether Turret Punching can be beneficial for your requirements, please give our helpful team a call today.

Folding Components after punching or profile cutting is an important part of the modern manufacturing process.

Here at MLCS we have diversified our capabilities in this area to ensure we have complete folding solutions for our customers. We have a range of both Hydraulic and Electric Press Brakes with folding capacity up to 4100mm in length. These machines are capable of folding the most complex parts to high tolerances to ensure outstanding repeatability across high volume production runs.

CNC RoutingFurthering our commitment to diversify our production facility, MLCS has recently commissioned a Multicam CNC routing machine.

With a large 4.0m x 1.8m working platform and twin routing heads, makes it an excellent addition to our machinery portfolio. With a focus on manufacturing aluminium and copper products this Australian made machine gives us the ability to produce high volume highly accurate parts at an affordable price.

Providing Fabrication and Welding solutions across multiple platforms is a critical part of being successful in the manufacturing industry.

MLCS has continued to stay at the forefront of the fast moving advancements in this area by making sure we utilize the latest technology. Central to our strategy is a twin station robot welding cell, using Motoman robots interfaced with 400 amp OTC digital pulse welders. This combination results in both flexibility and reliability for all our automated welding solutions.

In addition to this cell we also have two stand-alone Motoman robot welders using the latest Fronius CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) technology. This allows us to weld dissimilar metals together for applications in the automotive, medical and military sectors.
