An effort is being made by the Library Board to have this property divided equitably so that a Library can be constructed as soon as possible, giving each organization full con- trol of its own activities, and each can work indepen- dently toward the civic bet- terment of Boca Raton. Parents of teenagers were invited to join the discussion which also included the chaperon- ing of Teenage Center. With over 100 members now attending events held at the Teenage Center the need for a full time recrea- tional director was stressed. Reportedly not included in the present town budget, a full-time director can not be approved at this time. As a temporary measure, coun- cil suggested that James Rutherford, present director of recreations be put on a part-time basis, alternating between his duties as a fire- man in the Boca Raton Fire Department and as director of Teenage Center. The problem of providing chaperones for the Center is an acute one, parents at- tending the meeting stated. The duties fall .on the same group over and over again. Approximately one quarter of the teenager's parents co- operate in this matter, thus depriving their children of the full benefits of parental companionship, they said. Council said the question of a full time director will be taken into consideration when thp new budget is prepared in July. If it is approved, applicants will have to take a Civil Service examination for the position. One of the most important cloud physics project car- ried out so far, according to top officials of the American Meteorology Society, took place in Boca Raton last summer under the name of "Project Seabreeze" and will be a main subject of discussion when experts from this field meet in Chi- cago this month. Boca Raton, they all agreed, was probably the outstand- ing place in the country to study cumulus clouds and a suggestion will be made to carry out another project this summer, no plans defi- nite yet. Domina J albert, one of the consultants to the advisory committee, who was instru- mental in bringing the scien- tific study group here, has been requested to obtain samples of the east Florida sea water to see if it con- tained nuclei. Water off the Boca Raton beach was used and the bottle mailed to meteorological experts in California for examination. Thousands of feet of film of cloud development and wind conditions were taken during the experiment and the results of the investiga- tion will be a subject of interest during the meeting in Chicago. A report will be circulated all over the world to scientific groups and uni- versities. Headquarters for the study group last summer-was Jal- bert's Aerological Labora- tory and the operation was conducted from the Pilot House. His plane was one of two used in the complete project. Snow was found over Boca Raton at the time. Weather balloons were used as part of the study of cumulus clouds conducted by the Advisory Committee on Weather Control in August. This committee was set up by Congress two years ago. Joining Boca's Domina J albert were Earl G. Dress- ier, who headed the group from Washington, D.C., Dwight B. Kline, also of Washington, Ted Smith, Clem T°dd and Milt Fauk- hausen, all of California. They seeded clouds with sil- ver iodide crystals, a rain making agent, for the pur- poses of enabling them to follow the pattern and to discover whether or not the crystals decay in high temp- erature, sunlight and humidi- ty. Scientists from all over the country are waiting for the official report of this most important cloud phy- sics project and the name of Boca Raton will soon be a familial one to them all. No Site For Boca School?Boca Raton needs a new school. The

need is great . . but . . where will it be?Population almost- doubling this year indi-cates an estimated increase in enrollmentwhich will create an emergency shortage bythe time school opens in the fall.

Funds not available until about one monthago are on hand now. A sum of $75,000 isready to be used to start construction of abuilding and $30,000 is allocated for thepurchase of a site — and there the projecthits a snag.

It is difficult to believe that in all thewide area the town of Boca Raton coversthat there is .no suitable site available forthis much needed school. Fifteen to twentyacres is the suggested size, large enoughto allow for the addition of a high schoollater.

A survey made by the State, stressed ineffect, that the land acquired be properlylocated and went on to state that in view ofestimated years of use, the over-all cost ofthe property is relatively unimportant withregards to the first requirement of best lo-cation. True, property values have increas-ed but is it reasonable to believe that nowhere within the town limits is there roomfor a new school? Children are our mostvaluable asset, our future civic leaders anddirectors and they must have adequate fa-cilities. Can we put a price tag on thevalue of educating them?

According to figures released by theUnited States Office of Education, 36,000new classrooms are urgently needed thisyear. Civic minded business men and lead-ers of local organizations have heldseveral meetings with members of theSchool Board at which time the Boca men

pointed out the tremendous growth of thetown and the necessity of selecting a sitefor a new school. Together with the Townofficials, they offered full cooperation inobtaining any specified area. At that time, there was no money available, according toMrs. Elizabeth S. Hand, member of theBoard of Public Instruction, Palm BeachCounty.

Mrs. Hand stated that the survey commi-tee from Tallahassee recommends a pri-ority list which includes heaviest popula-tion area, schools with double sessions andothers in worse conditions. The recommen-dation is then sent to the School Board forapproval and they in turn try to follow thepriority list on a basis of absolute need."Politics do not enter the picture in anyway", Mrs. Hand added.

Recognizing the need in Boca Raton, theSchool Board member stated that they haddone all they could with the funds avail-able. They doubled the size of the presentschool by adding four class rooms, thenbuilt two portable buildings raising the to-taJ to ten classrooms. Leasing the buildingacross- the street from the school, last sum-mer, it was remodeled and provided stillmore rooms.

Although greatly appreciated, this is stillnot enough. Boca needs a new school. Thetown rallied behind the recent School Bondissue 100%. These bonds have not beensold yet but it is hoped that they will be,in May. Boca has reportedly received toppriority and everything is set to go . . whena site is found. Solving this problem shouldbe at the top of die list, and surely it couldbe accomplished, and soon by everyoneconcerned working together.

What face we present to the world, dims as we prepare to face ourselves. Images in a mirrorfade as actions, thoughts and deeds are gauged on a spiritualscale. Substance and shadow fuse and as contemplation conrtinues, reality begins to emerge. Not always pleasant, Some-times shame and sorrow edge the picture, but hope enterswhen we "houseclean". and realize the extent of our limita-tions.

In ancient days, the time of preparation for Easter variedin length in different countries; it was a period of penanceand holiness reminiscent of the forty days of fast of Christin the desert, preceding the great Feast of the Resurrection.

In the Old Law, ashes signified grief, also penance. Sor-;rowing penitents practiced the wearing of "ashes and sacl?cloth", symbolic of the words, "Remember man, that thbu ,art dust, and unto dust thou shalt return".

Originally instituted for public penitents, the ceremonywas later rearranged for all Christians, varying in differentchurches. A tradition that began sometime before 1000 A,D.it is carried on today with services and prayer in churchesof all denominations, some with, some without, the use ofashes. But for all it is a time for thinking, for sacrifice andcontrition, a time to remind ourselves that it is not the per-ishable things of the world that really count but what we doand make of ourselves. For "What does it profit a man togain the world when he loses his soul in the bargain?"

More than 300 people gathered together on Tuesday todonate $50 dollars apiece so that some unknown child couldreceive needed hospital treatment. In a dignified, quiet man-ner, these persons, wanting no publicity, contributed to theprogress of mankind. In the midst' of a busy social season, they allowed time and discounted the cost, for who can placea value in dollars and cents on a stricken child's life, andrallied to the call for aid, thereby immeasureably enrichingtheir own lives.

So nice to see the so-relaxed Perry Como and his lovelywife strolling around the grounds of the Boca Club holdinghands. Really fond of golf, Perry spent most of his week'svacation on the course . . between spells of the ''liquidsunshine".

Several people have com-mented recently about astory which appeared in mycolumn last summer. ;It hasa good moral, and is worthrepeating.

One night in ancient times, three horsemen were ridingacross a desert. As they cross-ed the dry bed of a river, outof the darkness a voice call-ed "Halt."•They obeyed. The voice then

told them to dismount, pick upa handful of pebbles, put thepebbles in their pockets andthen remount. The voice thensaid, "You have done as Icommanded. Tomorrow at sun-up you will be both glad andsorry." Mystified, the horse-men rode on.

When the sun rose, theyreached into their pocketsand found that a miracle hadhappened. The pebbles hadbeen transformed into dia-monds, rubies, and otherprecious stones. They remem-bered the warning. They wereboth glad and sorry - gladthey had taken some, andsorry they had not takenmore
