TRANSCRIPT
For nearly 110 years, the people of First Baptist have shined as the light of the
world not only here at the corner of Broward and Federal, but in some of the most
underserved corners of our world. Our rally cry is taken from the words of Jesus in
the book of Matthew, living out our mission to serve God by serving others. It’s been
exciting to see God’s people mobilized in rescuing at risk children, coming alongside
single mothers and widows in need, and simply being generous with their resources
and time.
Culture is advancing so rapidly; the city is growing, and our physical presence in our
neighborhood must be as brilliant as ever! The purpose of SHINE is to renew and
recover some of our aging campus features so we will be visible and engaging to
the thousands of passers-by each day; to restore weathered infrastructure so that
ministry will emanate with clarity and beauty. All for the glory of God.
| You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to the whole house. In the same way, let your light SHINE before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

Downtown is becoming a more pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, and these improvements will illustrate the vibrant and attractive nature of the ministry within.
This initiative will add a modern trellis, stone texturing, architectural window features, new shutters, and attractive landscaping.

Broward
Boulevard.
Building A is positioned right along Broward Boulevard, and is among our oldest and least attractive structures. Through simple improvements like shade features, brand identifiers, a similar model trellis as is being installed on our northwest corner, and added landscaping, passers-by will know not only who we are but that we are also focused on adding interest to the incredible and expanding downtown community.
Currently there is no place on campus to drop off or pick up passengers while being protected from the elements in a storm. While this was considered in much earlier versions of our master plan, no structure ever materialized. Through SHINE we will add a simple and elegant porte-cochère along 1st Street on the east side of Building C.

WHAT COMES NEXT? As a new Lead Pastor on boards, there are several
additional projects under consideration.
SHINE is about people.
It’s about sacrificially investing in our neighborhood so that residents will be reached with the light of Jesus. “
