MT. ST. HELENS MAY 2016 Traveling the roads of Central Oregon’s High Desert Plateau, you find some interesting scenic locations. This particular view point had a step-up marker with plates pointing you in the direction of several mountains off in the hazy distance. As you move around the marker you can see Mt. Hood, Mt. MT. ADAMS

Today (May 18, 2016) is the 36th Anniversary of the Mt. St. Helen’s eruption. We didn’t even hear about the eruption until we were home… having left Portland for Tillamook while the mountain was erupting. I remember a thick layer of ash falling on our home on Netarts Bay. As we enjoyed the view, it was hard not to think about how volatile mother nature can be.

MT. RAINIER

Living along the Oregon Coast, where we enjoy nature’s bounty every day, I often wonder what nature has in store for us down the road. ELECTIONS Elections will be covered on the Beacon Facebook page so the paper can be posted timely.

This is a free public meeting to get to know fellow local preppers in southwestern Oregon counties and to exchange information and ideas. It is important for

individuals to understand that they will be “on their own” in the event of a disaster and not to depend on receiving outside help. Join Southwestern Oregon Preppers on Facebook and/or meetup.com. BEAR CAMP ROAD OPEN

SOUTHWEST OR—Bear Camp Road will open for public travel for the recreation season on May 13th. Agencies completed plowing operations on May 11th, ahead of schedule due to the winter’s heavy snowpack melting faster than had been anticipated. All seasonal gate closures, including gates off the Peavine-Serpentine and Galice Access Roads, have been lifted. Motorists are advised to use caution when driving through slide areas. There will be a maintenance contractor working on the Forest Service portion of the road, west of the Bear Camp overlook, cleaning ditches and culverts, and clearing minor slides. Motorists should expect 20 minute delays; drive with caution and be aware of the presence of road workers. Not all Forest and BLM roads have been maintained or checked after the winter season. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and avoid using less-traveled roads, particularly earlier in the season before all road surfaces are thoroughly dry. Good preparation and driving habits are important when traveling on forest roads, as weather and road conditions may change rapidly. Be prepared with extra blankets, food, water, clothing and emergency equipment. When driving, keep lights on, drive slowly and be prepared to stop for oncoming traffic, particularly on blind corners.

RUSH SURGERY CENTER BROOKINGS, OR (May 12, 2016) – Curry Health Network today announced that the Network’s ambulatory surgery center located in Brookings, Oregon has achieved accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Accreditation distinguishes Rush Surgery Center from many other outpatient facilities by providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation. Status as an accredited organization means Rush Surgery Center has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by AAAHC. More than 6,000 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States are accredited by AAAHC. Not all ambulatory health care organizations seek accreditation; and not all that undergo the rigorous on-site survey process are granted accreditation. Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by AAAHC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by AAAHC expert surveyors – physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care. The survey is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
