welcome peace beauty energy and refuge at North Parish Even if you

are relatively new to North Parish there are multiple small ways that you

can contribute on either a one-time or recurring basis Members and

Welcome guests as they enter the sanctuary

Great Pond Sangha

The Great Pond Sangha hosts weekly evening and morning Buddhist

meditations at the North Parish but serves the entire Merrimack Valley

community They come together to practice Mindfulness Love and Com-

passion Self-Inquiry Innate Wisdom and Natural Awareness (Dzogchen

Music

Members plan activities and help the Music Director with tasks required

to manage the music ministry at North Parish The Committee meets

every six weeks or so as the need arises Volunteers also are needed for

Religious Education

As a co-operative program Religious Education relies on active inten-

tional support from our members and friends to succeed We expect all

adults with children enrolled who are not engaged in a major volunteer

capacity elsewhere in the church to sign up for a support role after being

involved in the church for six months We also welcome the participa-

tion of other adults or teens in the congregation All adults working with

children will be subject to a CORI check Although our largest need is

for Sunday morning facilitators we have room for support in all areas

Spiritual Development amp Worship

Small Group Ministry

Small Group Ministry (SGM) groups are covenanted groups of eight to

ten members who explore themes of belonging and meaning together

Groups meet once or twice a month in membersrsquo homes or at church

usually for two hours Most sharing circles begin with a chalice lighting

and ldquocheck-inrdquo Discussions cover a diversity of topics including sermon

reflections seasonal celebrations grief and loss community and service

Groups are encouraged to ldquopay it forwardrdquo by engaging as a team in at

least one service project ndash for the congregation or the wider community

ndash each year From local charity walks house amp grounds cleanups serving

food at Cor Unum to cooking for Bread amp Roses donating books to

Community Giving Tree and collecting coats for Peoplersquos Pantry our

small groups are carrying their faith in to the world

A wonderful way to take an active part in Sunday Service and meet many

North Parish members and friends The Worship Committee collabo-

rates with the Minister to plan services choose guest preachers brain-

Caring Team

The Caring Teamrsquos mission is to create a culture of caring within our

North Parish family In coordination with our Ministers they

Provide meals transportation and errands for those in crisis

Help identify needs and determine resources among friends and fami-

lies

Provide information about resources such as AA AlAnon small group

ministry circles bereavement groups

Reach out to our church community with phone calls visits and cards

when appropriate

Encourage others to participate in fulfilling our mission

The Caring Team does not provide ongoing long-term intervention

counseling or coordination of activities If you can help on an occasional

Crossroads Music Series

Crossroads Music Series (formerly Crossroads Coffeehouse) is a

community-based venue run out of North Parish that brings a variety of

live music to the Merrimack Valley The coffeehouse is a smoke free

alcohol free environment with good acoustics and great desserts coffee

and teas It is run entirely by volunteers If yoursquod like to help with an

Hospitality

The Hospitality team assists with ad hoc events such as memorial ser-

vices retirements and church celebrations If you would like to be on

the list of those willing to contribute food beverages or help with set-up

Membership

The Membership Committee helps newcomers learn about Unitarian

Universalism and supports North Parish members live out their faith

The committee collaborates with other teams to facilitate the journey

from first encounter through joining deepening and leaving membership

ldquoNew UUrdquo Series Co-facilitate a Talk amp Tour (an informal introduc-

tion to North Parish Learn amp Affirm (an overview of UUism theology

Seasonal Suppers Help coordinate potluck dinners sponsored in

host familiesrsquo homes that provide opportunity for introduction con-

nection and fellowship

Volunteer Recognition Create opportunities to recognize volun-

teer efforts

New Member Celebrations Participate in semi-annual new mem-

ber recognition Sundays

Outreach Reach out to visitors and invite them to various activities

or touch base with members we havenrsquot seen in a while

The Menrsquos Group welcomes all men to join us for the possibility of

friendship food and fun We gather for occasional dinners and events

such as the Day After Fatherrsquos Day golf skiing at Mt Sunapee and sum-

Prayer Shawl Ministry

North Parish provides prayer and meditation shawls for those who are ill

or in mourning All knitters are welcome If you are interested in knitting

Our goal is to find ways for folks at church to connect with one another

in a fun and casual way Interested in helping out Have a new event to

Red Bow Fair

The Red Bow Fair is our annual holiday fair held the first Saturday in

December and is our largest fundraiser Itrsquos a great way to meet fellow

Sales Staff Work at the Fair for a two-hour stint selling baskets

crafts greens cookies lunch and snacks

Muscle Team Help with set-up on the Thursday amp Friday before the

Fair whenever you are available help with take-down immediately after

the Fair

Pre-Fair Make gift baskets solicit donations for the Silent Auction

put up posters make jelly or baked goods decorate wreaths donate

ingredients on the kitchenrsquos shopping list

Co-Chair a Sub-Committee Requires a few hoursweek in Octo-

ber and November resources and notes from previous years to get

you started

Social Action Council

The Social Action Council helps coordinate social action projects within

the congregation and provides support for project leaders The Council

updates the Social Action calendar and helps guide all-congregation

initiatives which have included annual efforts small group projects and

ongoing food ministries such as

The Council also organizes monthly special outreach collections In the

past these collections have supported women and childrenrsquos shelters

disaster relief efforts and international UU connections through the

Partner Church Council and UU Service Committee

The Technology team helps advise our staff about phone and computer

systems in our church offices and provides occasional troubleshooting

Governance amp Stewardship

Elected Officers

North Parish has four Elected Officers who serve for one year terms

The Nominating Committee proposes candidates for the elected officers

including the Board of Trustees Nominees then are approved by the

membership during Annual Meeting in May Officers must be a member

of the congregation for at least a year and age 18 or older

Clerk The Clerk is the recording officer of the congregation and as

such gives notice of all meetings of the Parish takes minutes at the An-

nual Meeting and any special meetings annually reviews mailing

membership list with input from staff Membership Committee and Fi-

nance Committee signs new member certificates and the warrant for

Annual Meeting

Collector The Collector collects all monies from both services and is

responsible for processing recording and depositing of checks and cash

The Collector oversees the pledge entry reports to the Finance Com-

mittee and serves as a member of the Finance Committee

Moderator The Moderator presides over all congregational meetings

(using Robertrsquos Rules of Order) and has the powers of a Moderator in

town meetings in Massachusetts as they are applicable The Moderator

calls for votes and states the outcomes for the official meeting minutes

Treasurer The Treasurer collects and collates input for the annual

church budget from the committees and staff gives monthly and annual

financial reports to the Board of Trustees serves on the Finance Com-

mittee The Treasurer also signs checks weekly for church expenses and

is a non-voting member of the Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is composed of seven voting members who are

elected by the congregation Board members meet once a month for a

3-hour meeting to develop carry out and review policies and long range

planning of the church This is a working Board with expectations of

liaison work or sub-committee project work done between meetings

The Board has responsibility for the fiduciary health of the church The

Board has hiringfiring power of all employees except for the called

minister(s) who are called and dismissed by congregational vote accord-

ing to the Bylaws The Board also is responsible for appointing members

to committees and task force groups including the Personnel Commit-

tee Nominating Committee and Committees on Ministry

Requirements

The Nominating Committee proposes candidates for the Board of

The Endowment Committee is comprised of three members who serve

staggered three year terms and who oversee and administer the North

Parish Endowment in the Common Endowment Fund of the UUA

Through the North Parish Endowment Policy they are responsible for

the faithful management of the Endowment and communicating with the

Finance

The Finance committee consists of the Treasurer and at least five other

members They assist the Parish Council and committees with short-

term budgeting and the Board of Trustees with long-term financial plan-

ning On a quarterly basis the Finance committee discusses North

Requirements The committee meets at least six times a year with a

minimum of one meeting per quarter

House amp Grounds

House amp Grounds supervises the upkeep of our historic building and

grounds Primarily a working committee members provide oversight or

manage a specific aspect of caring for our ldquospiritual houserdquo Contact

Spiffer crew 1-2 hours per month help with housekeeping duties

including dusting windowsills and baseboards cleaning kitchen spot

Fix-it crew Variable tackle a small project or repair such as replacing

porch steps small painting jobs monitoring our equipment and assets

Grounds crew Variable and seasonal planting and caring for our

gardens playground and cemetery grounds

Requirements Match your skill interest and time availability to a task

from a few hours each month or season to whatever it takes to

complete the project two brief committee meetings per year sched-

uled between services status check-in by phone email or coffee hour

conversations

Nominating

The three members of the Nominating committee recommend

candidates to fill vacancies in the elected offices presenting the slate of

candidates to the Board of Trustees prior to the April meeting of the

Requirements Members of this committee cannot be Parish officers or

members of the Board of Trustees

Parish Council

The Parish Council is officially composed of chairs of the standing

committees the Treasurer a Trustee (Council Chair) the Minister

(non-voting) representatives from other groups within the church and

invited guest whose input is most appreciated The purpose of the Par-

ish Council is to coordinate all church activities and oversee the day-to-

day operations of the church in cooperation with the churchs staff The

Parish Council provides the forum for clarifying and resolving church op-

erational issues by ensuring good communication and coordination

among all committees and groups The Parish Council holds monthly

meetings open to all that are also attended by the religious education di-

rector and occasionally other staff members and invited guests

Elected Officers

North Parish has four Elected Officers who serve for one year terms

The Nominating Committee proposes candidates for the elected officers

including the Board of Trustees Nominees then are approved by the

membership during Annual Meeting in May Officers must be a member

of the congregation for at least a year and age 18 or older

Clerk The Clerk is the recording officer of the congregation and as

such gives notice of all meetings of the Parish takes minutes at the An-

nual Meeting and any special meetings annually reviews mailing

membership list with input from staff Membership Committee and Fi-

nance Committee signs new member certificates and the warrant for

Annual Meeting

Collector The Collector collects all monies from both services and is

responsible for processing recording and depositing of checks and cash

The Collector oversees the pledge entry reports to the Finance Com-

mittee and serves as a member of the Finance Committee

Moderator The Moderator presides over all congregational meetings

(using Robertrsquos Rules of Order) and has the powers of a Moderator in

town meetings in Massachusetts as they are applicable The Moderator

calls for votes and states the outcomes for the official meeting minutes

Treasurer The Treasurer collects and collates input for the annual

church budget from the committees and staff gives monthly and annual

financial reports to the Board of Trustees serves on the Finance Com-

mittee The Treasurer also signs checks weekly for church expenses and

is a non-voting member of the Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is composed of seven voting members who are

elected by the congregation Board members meet once a month for a

3-hour meeting to develop carry out and review policies and long range

planning of the church This is a working Board with expectations of

liaison work or sub-committee project work done between meetings

The Board has responsibility for the fiduciary health of the church The

Board has hiringfiring power of all employees except for the called

minister(s) who are called and dismissed by congregational vote accord-

ing to the Bylaws The Board also is responsible for appointing members

to committees and task force groups including the Personnel Commit-

tee Nominating Committee and Committees on Ministry

Requirements

The Finance committee consists of the Treasurer and at least five other

members They assist the Parish Council and committees with short-

term budgeting and the Board of Trustees with long-term financial plan-

Requirements The committee meets at least six times a year with a

House amp Grounds supervises the upkeep of our historic building and

grounds Primarily a working committee members provide oversight or

The Parish Council is officially composed of chairs of the standing

committees the Treasurer a Trustee (Council Chair) the Minister

day operations of the church in cooperation with the churchs staff The

Parish Council provides the forum for clarifying and resolving church op-

erational issues by ensuring good communication and coordination

The Great Pond Sangha hosts weekly evening and morning Buddhist

Members plan activities and help the Music Director with tasks required

to manage the music ministry at North Parish The Committee meets

Religious Education

As a co-operative program Religious Education relies on active inten-

tional support from our members and friends to succeed We expect all

tion of other adults or teens in the congregation All adults working with

children will be subject to a CORI check Although our largest need is

reflections seasonal celebrations grief and loss community and service

Members plan activities and help the Music Director with tasks required

to manage the music ministry at North Parish The Committee meets

every six weeks or so as the need arises Volunteers also are needed for

Religious Education

As a co-operative program Religious Education relies on active inten-

tional support from our members and friends to succeed We expect all

tion of other adults or teens in the congregation All adults working with

children will be subject to a CORI check Although our largest need is

for Sunday morning facilitators we have room for support in all areas

Small Group Ministry (SGM) groups are covenanted groups of eight to

ten members who explore themes of belonging and meaning together

Groups meet once or twice a month in membersrsquo homes or at church

usually for two hours Most sharing circles begin with a chalice lighting

and ldquocheck-inrdquo Discussions cover a diversity of topics including sermon

reflections seasonal celebrations grief and loss community and service

Groups are encouraged to ldquopay it forwardrdquo by engaging as a team in at

least one service project ndash for the congregation or the wider community

ndash each year From local charity walks house amp grounds cleanups serving

food at Cor Unum to cooking for Bread amp Roses donating books to

Community Giving Tree and collecting coats for Peoplersquos Pantry our

small groups are carrying their faith in to the world

tion of other adults or teens in the congregation All adults working with

children will be subject to a CORI check Although our largest need is

Small Group Ministry (SGM) groups are covenanted groups of eight to

ten members who explore themes of belonging and meaning together

Groups meet once or twice a month in membersrsquo homes or at church

usually for two hours Most sharing circles begin with a chalice lighting

and ldquocheck-inrdquo Discussions cover a diversity of topics including sermon

reflections seasonal celebrations grief and loss community and service

Groups are encouraged to ldquopay it forwardrdquo by engaging as a team in at

least one service project ndash for the congregation or the wider community

ndash each year From local charity walks house amp grounds cleanups serving

food at Cor Unum to cooking for Bread amp Roses donating books to

Community Giving Tree and collecting coats for Peoplersquos Pantry our

small groups are carrying their faith in to the world

Elected Officers

North Parish has four Elected Officers who serve for one year terms

The Nominating Committee proposes candidates for the elected officers

including the Board of Trustees Nominees then are approved by the

membership during Annual Meeting in May Officers must be a member

of the congregation for at least a year and age 18 or older

Clerk The Clerk is the recording officer of the congregation and as

such gives notice of all meetings of the Parish takes minutes at the An-

nual Meeting and any special meetings annually reviews mailing

membership list with input from staff Membership Committee and Fi-

nance Committee signs new member certificates and the warrant for

Annual Meeting

Collector The Collector collects all monies from both services and is

responsible for processing recording and depositing of checks and cash

The Collector oversees the pledge entry reports to the Finance Com-

mittee and serves as a member of the Finance Committee

Moderator The Moderator presides over all congregational meetings

(using Robertrsquos Rules of Order) and has the powers of a Moderator in

town meetings in Massachusetts as they are applicable The Moderator

calls for votes and states the outcomes for the official meeting minutes

Treasurer The Treasurer collects and collates input for the annual

church budget from the committees and staff gives monthly and annual

financial reports to the Board of Trustees serves on the Finance Com-

mittee The Treasurer also signs checks weekly for church expenses and

is a non-voting member of the Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is composed of seven voting members who are

elected by the congregation Board members meet once a month for a

3-hour meeting to develop carry out and review policies and long range

planning of the church This is a working Board with expectations of

liaison work or sub-committee project work done between meetings

The Board has responsibility for the fiduciary health of the church The

Board has hiringfiring power of all employees except for the called

minister(s) who are called and dismissed by congregational vote accord-

ing to the Bylaws The Board also is responsible for appointing members

to committees and task force groups including the Personnel Commit-

tee Nominating Committee and Committees on Ministry

Requirements

Parish Endowment in the Common Endowment Fund of the UUA

The Finance committee consists of the Treasurer and at least five other

members They assist the Parish Council and committees with short-

term budgeting and the Board of Trustees with long-term financial plan-

ning On a quarterly basis the Finance committee discusses North

Requirements The committee meets at least six times a year with a

minimum of one meeting per quarter

House amp Grounds supervises the upkeep of our historic building and

grounds Primarily a working committee members provide oversight or

Spiffer crew 1-2 hours per month help with housekeeping duties

The three members of the Nominating committee recommend

candidates to fill vacancies in the elected offices presenting the slate of

The Parish Council is officially composed of chairs of the standing

committees the Treasurer a Trustee (Council Chair) the Minister

(non-voting) representatives from other groups within the church and

invited guest whose input is most appreciated The purpose of the Par-

ish Council is to coordinate all church activities and oversee the day-to-

day operations of the church in cooperation with the churchs staff The

Parish Council provides the forum for clarifying and resolving church op-

erational issues by ensuring good communication and coordination

among all committees and groups The Parish Council holds monthly

meetings open to all that are also attended by the religious education di-

Spiritual Development amp Worship

Small Group Ministry

Small Group Ministry (SGM) groups are covenanted groups of eight to

ten members who explore themes of belonging and meaning together

Groups meet once or twice a month in membersrsquo homes or at church

usually for two hours Most sharing circles begin with a chalice lighting

and ldquocheck-inrdquo Discussions cover a diversity of topics including sermon

reflections seasonal celebrations grief and loss community and service

Groups are encouraged to ldquopay it forwardrdquo by engaging as a team in at

least one service project ndash for the congregation or the wider community

ndash each year From local charity walks house amp grounds cleanups serving

food at Cor Unum to cooking for Bread amp Roses donating books to

Community Giving Tree and collecting coats for Peoplersquos Pantry our

small groups are carrying their faith in to the world

Elected Officers

North Parish has four Elected Officers who serve for one year terms

The Nominating Committee proposes candidates for the elected officers

including the Board of Trustees Nominees then are approved by the

membership during Annual Meeting in May Officers must be a member

of the congregation for at least a year and age 18 or older

Clerk The Clerk is the recording officer of the congregation and as

such gives notice of all meetings of the Parish takes minutes at the An-

nual Meeting and any special meetings annually reviews mailing

membership list with input from staff Membership Committee and Fi-

nance Committee signs new member certificates and the warrant for

Annual Meeting

Collector The Collector collects all monies from both services and is

responsible for processing recording and depositing of checks and cash

The Collector oversees the pledge entry reports to the Finance Com-

mittee and serves as a member of the Finance Committee

Moderator The Moderator presides over all congregational meetings

(using Robertrsquos Rules of Order) and has the powers of a Moderator in

town meetings in Massachusetts as they are applicable The Moderator

calls for votes and states the outcomes for the official meeting minutes

Treasurer The Treasurer collects and collates input for the annual

church budget from the committees and staff gives monthly and annual

financial reports to the Board of Trustees serves on the Finance Com-

Board has hiringfiring power of all employees except for the called

minister(s) who are called and dismissed by congregational vote accord-

Red Bow Fair

The Red Bow Fair is our annual holiday fair held the first Saturday in

December and is our largest fundraiser Itrsquos a great way to meet fellow

Sales Staff Work at the Fair for a two-hour stint selling baskets

crafts greens cookies lunch and snacks

Muscle Team Help with set-up on the Thursday amp Friday before the

Fair whenever you are available help with take-down immediately after

the Fair

Pre-Fair Make gift baskets solicit donations for the Silent Auction

put up posters make jelly or baked goods decorate wreaths donate

ingredients on the kitchenrsquos shopping list

Co-Chair a Sub-Committee Requires a few hoursweek in Octo-

ber and November resources and notes from previous years to get

The Social Action Council helps coordinate social action projects within

the congregation and provides support for project leaders The Council

updates the Social Action calendar and helps guide all-congregation

North Parish has four Elected Officers who serve for one year terms

The Nominating Committee proposes candidates for the elected officers

including the Board of Trustees Nominees then are approved by the

membership during Annual Meeting in May Officers must be a member

of the congregation for at least a year and age 18 or older

Clerk The Clerk is the recording officer of the congregation and as

such gives notice of all meetings of the Parish takes minutes at the An-

nual Meeting and any special meetings annually reviews mailing

membership list with input from staff Membership Committee and Fi-

nance Committee signs new member certificates and the warrant for

Annual Meeting

Collector The Collector collects all monies from both services and is

responsible for processing recording and depositing of checks and cash

The Collector oversees the pledge entry reports to the Finance Com-

mittee and serves as a member of the Finance Committee

Moderator The Moderator presides over all congregational meetings

(using Robertrsquos Rules of Order) and has the powers of a Moderator in

town meetings in Massachusetts as they are applicable The Moderator

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is composed of seven voting members who are

elected by the congregation Board members meet once a month for a

3-hour meeting to develop carry out and review policies and long range

planning of the church This is a working Board with expectations of

liaison work or sub-committee project work done between meetings

The Board has responsibility for the fiduciary health of the church The

Board has hiringfiring power of all employees except for the called

minister(s) who are called and dismissed by congregational vote accord-

ing to the Bylaws The Board also is responsible for appointing members

to committees and task force groups including the Personnel Commit-

tee Nominating Committee and Committees on Ministry

Requirements

The Nominating Committee proposes candidates for the Board of

Trustees who are then approved by the membership during Annual

Meeting (May)

Must be a member of the congregation for at least a year age 18 or

older
