It’s finally almost summertime and that means lots and lots of weddings. I personally love weddings. After having married off three children, whenever I go to a wedding, I can now appreciate the amount of time, effort, and work that goes into making a wedding. It’s a real special day and everybody wants to make sure that things come out just right.

At every wedding, people try their hardest to be sure that their appearance is absolutely perfect, particularly the bride and groom. Parents, siblings, uncles, aunts, cous-ins, and grandparents and everyone in the wedding party are all trying to look their very best. The pictures that are taken on that day are going to last a lifetime and we want to remember that occasion with all the specialness that it deserves. The gowns will be perfectly fitted and the tux-edos will be looking just fine, but what about your smile? Is your smile good enough where you will be able to give a great big broad smile showing a lot of teeth? Or are you ashamed of your smile and you will be barely smiling in these forever pictures? It’s not only the wedding pictures, but what about pictures that are taken of you every single day? Those pictures also last a lifetime.

Many people are going to remember you by the look of your smile. I remember someone once telling me that they had a wonderful aunt who was always remembered as being an unhappy person because she never smiled in any of the family pictures. She found out later in life that it was because the aunt was embarrassed of her smile. Imagine that – she could have been the happiest person on earth, but nobody knew it because she was afraid to smile.

It’s time to really do something about your smile so that you can tell the world how happy you are every day and particularly on those special occasions like weddings.

We’ve lots of ways to help you get a brilliant smile – teeth whitening is a great way to brighten all those teeth in a short period of time. Lumineers, the best and most conser-vative way to do porcelain veneers, and the newest addition to getting a great smile is the Snap on Smile. With only having to take an impression of your teeth, this removable, beautiful smile snaps on over your existing teeth for those special occasions and whenever you want a great looking smile. Many times people will want to try on a Snap on Smile before they do permanent Lumineers to get an idea of what their teeth can look like.

No matter which way you would like, it’s possible to have that great big smile ready for this summer. Call us to-day at 440-892-1810 for a free consultation for any of your dental needs or even for a second opinion. We’re here to make you smile!

Bay Village Salutes Chief Fred DrenkhanLaw enforcement officials, community leaders and family members all paid tribute to the late Bay

Village Police Chief Fred Drenkhan Saturday morning as a long funeral procession that started at St. Raphael Church on Dover Center Road moved through the community.

The procession followed a route past the Drenkhan family home and also under a large American Flag posted atop a fire truck at Cahoon Park. The procession continued to St. Joseph Cemetery in Avon where Mr. Drenkhan, 88, was interred.

Mr. Drenkhan was best known publicly as the first responding officer to the scene of the Sam Shep-pard murder on July 4, 1954. In the community, Mr. Drenkhan was the total opposite of the drama the Sheppard story brought to the city. He was well-known as a soft-spoken, cordial community member who went on to become Chief of Police in 1965.

“Chief Drenkhan would always greet you with a smile and a handshake. He made it a point to in-quire as to how things were going at the police station and asked that you’d tell the Officers he said hello. He was a true gentleman and will be missed,” said a current Bay Village Police officer in remembrance.

Serving the Needs of Our CommunityA Few of the Great Stories of Wonderful Work Being Done...

Community West Foundation has many great stories to tell about the wonderful and wide-spread work that is taking place in our commu-nity by our local nonprofit organizations. This past year we funded a portfolio of pro-

Paul Knott, of Neighborhood Alliance, has been delivering meals to homebound senior citizens throughout Lorain County for over 12 years. Part of his personal mission to make sure the over 80 seniors he serves daily re-ceive a hot meal, warm smile, and the comfort of a friendly visitor. The meal Paul delivers is often the only meal of the day for these seniors. Without it, many clients would be forced to choose between paying for food, or medica-tion and housing expenses. Through our partnership with Neighborhood Alliance, Community West Foundation provided a $50,000 grant for the Senior Home Delivered Meals Program to help seniors struggling with hunger and food insecurity. The Community West Foundation is pleased to partner with a network of agencies during a time when the need for food in our community has greatly increased. We have directed significant resources to The Greater Cleveland Food Bank, The Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland, Second Harvest Food Bank (Lorain County), The Boys and Girls Clubs of Lorain County, The His-panic Senior Center, The Salvation Army, The Village Project, WSEM Food Centers and Rocky River Meals on Wheels.

Hunger Programs Help Serve Our Seniors

You can tell there is something special about Paul Knott by the smiles on the seniors’ faces when he knocks on the door. Paul is a real life superhero who is truly making a difference in the day to

day lives of our homebound seniors.

The road back to independence and self-sufficiency from homelessness is very difficult. We have a number of agencies that support people making that difficult journey. One of the most impressive is Community Service Alliance, lead by Executive Director Tim Gleason and Program Manager James Johnson, which is comprised of Procop House, Fulton House, and Sandy’s House. Since Community Service Alliance began nearly 10 years ago, they have helped more than 900 men. It is truly a place that is welcoming for these men to share their hopes, challenges, and dreams for a better future. We believe in the men emerging from these programs and have provided a grant of $42,500. Learn more about how you can lend your support to Com-munity Service Alliance at comservealliance.org. Community West Foundation supports a number of agencies that pro-vide shelter and support for our homeless population, including Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry, Providence House, Transitional Housing for Women, Joseph’s Home, The Metanoia Project, Family Promise of Greater Cleveland, Cleveland Mediation Center/Homeless Prevention, Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless, and the City Mission.

Homelessness/Housing Programs Offer the Gift of Hope

We were moved by clients’ stories and their extraordinary resilience and determination. The hope and the self-worth these men found through the programs at Fulton House have changed their lives.

The Lakewood Community Services Center, under the leadership of Executive Director Trish Rooney, provides excellent services to over 2,500 clients each month. Our grant of $65,000 provided support for its programs, including the Emergency Food Pantry, Homeless Prevention and Shelter Programs, Case Management, Job Training and Placement Services, Mental Health Services, and a program, new in 2014 and especially important to Trish and her staff, a Summer Food and Enrichment Program for children. LCSC social workers have seen a large increase in the number of uninsured clients

in need of mental health services, available to them in Lakewood. Trish worked with Murtis Taylor Human Services System to develop a ground-breaking collaborative program to provide assessment and treat-ment at the center. It has proven to be a very successful program and Community West Foundation is proud to have been the initial - and continuing - funder of this critical service. Visit Lakewood Community Servic-es Center at lcsclakewood.org to make a donation. Our partners dedicated to pro-viding basic needs and outreach funded by Community West include St. Paul’s UCC

Community Outreach, May Du-gan Center, Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services, Domestic Violence & Child Ad-vocacy Center, St. Colman’s Out-reach, West Side Catholic Center, Lorain County Office on Aging, North Ridgeville Community Care, and Denison Avenue UCC.

Retail growth in Avon is continuing at a rapid pace with three major players being added to the city’s roster of incoming businesses.

Cabela’s, Menard’s and Meijer are the Big 3, all slated to go into the Chester Road and I-90 corridor. The build-out will bring over 700 jobs to the Avon area, but will also mean the development of over 65 acres of vacant land. All are expected to open in 2016.

Cabela’s, known as the World’s Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear since 1961, has chosen Avon as their newest store’s home. It will be the company’s fourth store in Ohio.

The new Cabela’s store will be located on the south side of Chester Road, just east of the Wickens, Herzer, Pan-za, Cook & Batista Legal Offices. The store will be 81,000 square feet and will employ approximately 160 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees. Cabela’s anticipates opening their new store in the fall of 2016.

The news comes just months after winter’s announce-ment that Menards, a big-box home improvement store, will build on 22-plus acres on Chester Road just east of Avon Crossings (Lowe’s-JC Penny Center).

Also coming to Avon is a new food retailer, Meijer. The food and houseware giant is expected to build a 23-acre, 24-hour superstore on the west side of Nagel Road south of the I-90 interchange. The store is reported to be bigger than Walmart and will carry gas station services. Meijers is a very popular Michigan grocery retailer with over 200 stores nationally and an excellent reputation for quality and price. The store is expected to bring 270 jobs.

Traffic concerns for the expanding Chester Road corri-dor are forefront on the minds of city officials. “To address

Avon Growth Brings Three Big Retailersthe comments of traffic and congestion, we are working on plans to alleviate those factors and make sure residents can get where they’re going safely and quickly,” says the City of Avon. “We are excited about the growth of the city but also understand the traffic issues that need to be addressed.
