It is my hope that the prayer offered by Jesus in John 17 will be realized by every body of believers. As you worship today, remember this prayer of our Lord. “May they also be in us so that the world may believe you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they maybe one as we are one. I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” Have you considered how you can be an answer to this prayer of Jesus? Shall we sow the seeds of peace, unity, and love? Shall we affirm the faith expressions of Christians regardless of race, language, or culture? Will we faithfully pray for perse- cuted Christians around the world? Perhaps as we receive the sacrament today we will renew our commitment to be the in- struments of peace and unity. A song I remember from many years ago expresses a timeless truth, “They will know we are Christians by our love.” The re- membrance of God’s love in the bread and cup can be a renew- ing power in each one of us. Just as Jesus loved us we are called to love one another. It is certainly a miracle of grace. But like any gift that is offered, it must be received. Let’s receive it by faith today and go out into the world as the reflection of the Fa- ther’s love. So that the world may know, Len

This morning we join with millions of Christians around the world in receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion.

May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved

me.”

Have you considered how you can be an answer to this prayer of Jesus? Shall we sow the seeds of peace, unity, and love? Shall we affirm the faith expressions of Christians regardless of race, language, or culture? Will we faithfully pray for perse-cuted Christians around the world? Perhaps as we receive the sacrament today we will renew our commitment to be the in-struments of peace and unity.

A song I remember from many years ago expresses a timeless truth, “They will know we are Christians by our love.” The re-membrance of God’s love in the bread and cup can be a renew-ing power in each one of us. The Celebration of Worship and Communion October 7, 2018

Today we affirm the presence of God: “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Our Father, we confess that we are often swept up in sinful affections.

We have failed in our calling to be Your holy people. We live in apathy born of fatalism than in passion born of hope.

We dream more of privilege and benefits than of service and sacrifice.

We try to speak in Your name without relying wholly on Your grace.

Help us to make room in our hearts and lives for You. Forgive us, revive us, and reshape us in Your image.

All offer personal prayers of confession in silence.

2020 Pilgrimage to the Oberammergau Passion Play

Since 1634, the most famous Passion Play in the world has been performed in Oberammergau, Germany, a tradition that has continued almost without interruption for over 380 years. This play about the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ is per-formed every 10 years, with its 42nd production occurring in 2020.

Our August 29 through September 12, 2020, pilgrimage will center around the Oberammergau Passion Play, but the pil-grimage will also explore the Judeo-Christian influence on the art and culture of several major European cities, including Florence, Ravenna, Venice, Regensburg, Prague, Dresden, Leipzig, Berlin—cities whose histories have been greatly shaped by the Jewish and Christian faiths.

If you are interested in joining this September 2020 pil-

grimage, or if you have already registered to go, Rev. Lamar Helms

will hold an informational meeting in McCormick Hall immedi-

ately following the 10:30 Worship Service on Sunday, October 7,

2018—next Sunday. Descriptive informational brochures will be

available at that meeting, as well as in the TouchPoint Information

Center just outside the office.

Welcome!
