What is CompTIA?


• CompTIA is “agnostic” or vendor-neutral:– In its representation of the information

technology community– In its development of exams and

certifications

• CompTIA offers a variety of other vendor-neutral tests such as Security+, Network+, etc.

CompTIA and the Project Management

Institute•CompTIA maintains a working relationship with PMI

•The Project+ exam objectives closely map to the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam objectives

•The PMP exam and certification is much more extensive

•The Project+ exam and certification are a great starting point for beginning Project Management (PM) professionals


Why the Name Change?

• CompTIA determined that the IT Project+ exam objectives were generic enough that the “IT” title didn’t fit

• The exam (and our book) was renamed to “Project+” in October of 2004

• The exam objectives and material remain the same


Do I need to be in IT to take the Project+

Exam?• Absolutely not! Project

Managers (PMs) work in a variety of disciplines (manufacturing, aerospace, etc.)

• However, IT is almost always a part of any given project!
