Session 2:Improved Situational Awareness
Sixth Meeting of the Science Advisory Committee28 February – 1 March 2012
Future Activities
National Space Science and Technology Center, Huntsville, AL
transitioning unique NASA data and research technologies to operations
Summary and Conclusions• Very high priority to further enhancing AWIPS II capabilities
– Moving beyond simply visualizing data in AWIPS II– Developing advanced visualization and interrogation capabilities
• E.g.: Lightning tracker, which also can be used on other data sets
• Increasing role in supporting NOAA activities– Primarily for GOES-R, but includes VIIRS
• SPoRT remains committed to our WFO partners– Continue visits to partner offices and potential collaborators– Coordination calls, training, and assessments– Establish the virtual workshop as an annual collaboration– Push for increased blog posts and input
transitioning unique NASA data and research technologies to operations
Looking Forward: Current Projects• Expanding use of total lightning data
– Closer ties with DCLMA and other networks– Prepare for role in GLM era
• Incorporating VIIRS into SPoRT product suite– Include with hybrids and RGBs
• Expanded role of SPoRT Hybrid and RGB products– Upcoming training modules– Preparing for additional evaluations
• Greater collaborations with training organizations– Preparations for the Operations Proving Ground
