VICE CHANCELLOR’S MESSAGE

India has been growing at a rapid pace and with this speed we are all set to regain our past glory

in foreseeable future. This puts an added responsibility on the institutions of higher learning and

their role becomes that much more important. The Guru Jambheshwar University of Science &

Technology, Hisar (A grade accredited by the NAAC) has been conscious of its responsibilities

in this context. The university has been introducing various hi-tech programmes from time to

time keeping in view the emerging requirement of the economy. Sensing the changing need of

the hour and to keep pace with technological advancement around the world, the university

introduced M. Tech courses in Nano-Science & Technology, VLSI design & Embedded

Systems, Optical Engineering, and Integrated Manufacturing.

The university has earned a formidable reputation for quality research in high-tech areas as is

evident by the fact that Ministries of Defense, Science & Technology, Food Processing,

Biotechnology, etc. have selected the University for Various Sponsored Research Projects. The

research outcomes are one of the enabling factors in sustaining economic growth. Equally

important and in fact accelerating factor is the management skill to manage the business

organizations where technology is put to commercial application. The university with support

from Haryana Government initiated a bold and innovative step in strengthening the Managerial

Education by way of setting up an autonomous Management Institution i.e. Haryana School of

Business on the pattern of IIMs and Harvard Business School.

The Haryana School of Business started its functioning w.e.f. session 2007-08. The School shall

be governed by a Governing Board, which comprise of prominent industrialists and professionals

so as to ensure the quality and relevance of management education in fast changing business

scenario. The faculty of the school is extremely proficient and enthusiastic academicians. The

management students admitted at HSB through CAT shall be provided with best possible

facilities. I hope that Government of India would provide necessary financial support to the

concept of Haryana School of Business for creating a world-class management education in this

part of the country.

CHAPTER – 2

HARYANA SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

2.1 THE BACKGROUND

Haryana School of Business made its modest beginning in 1994 as a Department of

Business Management with sixty seats being a part of the regional centre to promote

study and research in emerging areas of management education and to achieve excellence

in professional education. The regional centre grew into a full-fledged University-Guru

Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar on 1st November 1995. The

university since then has grown by leaps and bounds (which is reflected in 'A' grade

accreditation by NAAC of UGC) and so has the department. The department has not only

kept the pace but has become a first in many things. It was the pioneer in starting the

super specialized programme like MBA (Finance), MBA (Marketing), MBA

(International Business) apart from the popular MBA with dual specialization with

specific purpose to provide quality education in management and to make more

meaningful contribution to the larger interest of the society with a clear focus on the

present day needs of the market and aspiration of the individuals. To further its vision of

reaching all aspiring managers and to strengthen the managerial and technical skills of

workforce of Haryana specifically the Department started MBA evening programme for

working executives in the academic year 1997-98. The uniqueness of the University in

general and of the Department of Business management in particular had been keeping

pace with changing time and requirement of society. The Department which began as a

small seedling grew into a full grown tree in a very short span of time, and is attracting

the attention of aspirers of quality management education in this part of the country. The

academic programmes are not only benchmarked against international norms and

standards but are also periodically rationalized according to the requirement of the

industry. The good response shown by the corporate sector for in placing the

department's students adds another feather to the cap. Innovative curricula, missionary

zeal of the faculty, healthy teaching and research environment, student's efficient

acquisition and management make the department the most sought after B-school of

Haryana. The department has been by and large the main choice of admission seekers in

Haryana in recent time. Faculty of the department is engaged in the research activities

and has attained national and international exposure by publication and participation in

national & international seminars & conferences. In its journey of around thirteen years

the department has many achievements to boost of. The achievement mainly in form of

the conferences it conducted, national and international conferences its faculty members

attended and presented papers therein, placement the students have had and teaching

methodology that made this department the unique one. A glimpse of all this is here for

brief view…

Page 16: Session: 2009-10 Session 2010-11 - GJUS&T · area has been developed with all basic amenities such as road networks, sewerage pipe lines for water, electricity supply and parks have

2.2 NATIONAL CONFERENCES/SEMINARS/REFRESHER COURSES

The department has been organizing national level conferences / seminars & workshops

to bring the academicians and practitioners to a common platform so as to deliberate

upon issues of concurrent importance. Such events help not only in consolidating

knowledge and vision in the relevant area but also provide an excellent opportunity to the

students to learn organizing skills. In the last three years we have organized more than a

dozen such events. To hone the teaching skills and impart the state of art knowledge the

Department has been organizing workshops & refresher courses for teachers from across

the country. The faculty is actively engrossed in the sponsored research and consulting

activities in a big way which is evinced from the fact that most of the teachers have

undertaken one or the other such project.

2.3 HSB: THE DREAM COMES TRUE

In the short span of a decade of existence, the Faculty has earned the striking reputation

in the field of management education. Majority of the teachers are engaged in research

activities and have attained enough national and international exposure by way of

publication and participation in national and international seminars and conferences.

The progress of department filled the management family with an aspiration to take a

major step forward. A dream was sown few years back to elevate department into a full
