Instead of…• What are parents doing to help their child succeed

in school?

Consider…• How can programs and institutions interact with and

support families to learn more about CTE opportunities and its value?

• How can educators foster partnerships with parents to provide direct experiences to increase support for CTE?

Importance

Perceptions

“When we [counselors] did recommend a

community college to one of our students, we got

calls from an angry and insulted parent.”

Students are encouraged to choose an alternative

career that “they may feel more comfortable in”

Of educators:

Perceptions

“I think it’s a kind of a slap in the face. I would like

to think the GPA I receive here [at my university] is

different from the one received at [a community

college].”

[The students] “aimed higher” and did not feel that

a community college would challenge them

academically.
