Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN) is a youth charity that creates opportunities so that disadvantaged young people from across Greater Manchester (GM) can take steps towards a positive future.

We support young people to be safe, valued and ambitious by delivering high quality programmes and building the capacity of other youth organisations.

The role

In recent months the number of short term projects we deliver has increased, therefore

we are on the lookout for new sessional staff to increase our capacity to deliver new work.

This work includes a mixture of delivery of youth work projects and consultation sessions.

The actual work to be delivered will depend on the particular project being delivered but

it may include social action activities, community reporters training, youth leadership and

volunteering.

We would be particularly keen to recruit Sessional Workers with any of the following

areas of expertise:

• Cooking

• Sports

• Music, media, filming

• Arts and crafts

Key duties and responsibilities:

The information below will provide an overview of what the roles may entail.

1. To assist and where necessary lead high quality group work sessions/consultation.

2. To deliver one-one sessions with young people to support with development and progression.

3. Support groups of young people to access and participate in volunteering and other positive activities.

4. Be responsible for the safety of the young people, dealing with any issues that may arise.

5. Facilitate young people’s learning and personal/social development and respond to individual and group needs.

6. Undertake basic project administrative duties to support the delivery team including preparation of materials prior to the session, impact measurement and data entry.

7. Undertake some desk-based research, specific to the requirements of each project.

8. Undertake training and development as agreed with line manager.

9. Be professional and represent the organisation positively.

• A valid driving licence or ability to travel

• First aid training certificate

• Youth Work or equivalent

• Prior experience of working with young people, particularly vulnerable young people

• Group work delivery

• Volunteering

• Project delivery and administration

• Training delivery

• Leading/Coordinating sessions

• Effective communication and social skills with young people at all levels

• To work on own initiative and as part of a team

• Flexibility – to adapt to changing circumstances

• Reliable and dependable

• Ability to improvise

• Research skills

• Basic IT skills

• The issues that young people face

• Basic safeguarding knowledge

• Basic knowledge of other organisations that support young people

• Willingness and ability to travel
