SET DESIGN

EVA GAITANIDOU

Main Idea

• My main idea for the set design, consists with two rooms the one next to each other. One room is the club and the other room is ‘Gale’. The Gale room is a room with mirrors, lights and glass. I came to this decision first. This is because of the inspector Gale ,who watches everything every time and secondly the audience will have the opportunity to explore Ruth Ellis in every movement inside the mirrors. So I think the relationship with the audience will be interment.

SECOND ROOMGale would be as an actor on stage but not always. When he is just watching he will be the room with some figures also behind, so the audience could make questions to themselves about this room. In the middle of these two rooms wil be a gramophone and a tv. The gramophone will play Billie Holiday as the audience watching on stage Ruth Ellis around the mirrors and some video shots c close to her face expressions on tv screen.

THE COURT CLUB

• The club would be the black-white room. This room has wall from glass because Gale can watch everything. Set design in this room is black and white(grey colours)(reminds me and old movie)• The set design would be a bar, tables some chairs,lights and tilted

mirror in the back wall.• Behind the glass walls there is space between the black walls.In that

space I will put Gale as a shadow and some props just to keep

In the Court Club I will put a pattern on the walls around.I made some research about patterns in 1950’s. A lot of flowers and organic curves. So I made my own pattern for the club.

A start of storyboard

• I was struggling to draw as I wanted to watch how it will be every idea I had and then decide. I started to do it by Photoshop. I was the first time I was doing set design in Photoshop without a model already done. So I tried as best as I could to make some lights so I could give more details of how I have imagined that.

Around the walls and the mirrors there will be Projections of Gale and pictures of strong scenes.The court will be with Ruth in the Mirror room andProjection of the court to the mirrors.
