Failure to Meet Expected Date of Graduation

The Graduate College and the Registrar's Office have initiated a policy and related procedures to addressa graduate student's failure to meet the expected date of graduation.

Policy: The graduation date for graduate students will be allowed to change twice. If the studentdoes not complete the degree requirements after the second date change, the Registrar's Officewill place the student´s graduation file on Inactive Status.

Procedure for Moving of Graduation Date: The Registrar´s Office will notify the student, viaBroncoMail, with an e-mail copy to the adviser, the program coordinator, and the GraduateCollege, that the expected date of graduation has been moved to the next available graduationdate because the degree requirements were not completed. The notification will also state that thestudent will be allowed one additional move and if the student does not meet all deadlines tograduate by the new date, his/her graduation file will be placed on Inactive Status.

Procedure for Inactive Status: If a student's graduation file is placed on Inactive Status, theRegistrar's Office will notify the student via BroncoMail, with an e-mail copy to the adviser, theprogram coordinator, and the Graduate College. The e-mail will state that in order to becomeeligible for a new graduation date, the following steps are necessary:

The student must contact his/her adviser and program coordinator and request that they reviewthe student's program, help the student design a schedule for completion, and choose a realisticgraduation date. The program coordinator then notifies the Registrar's Office in writing of the newexpected date of graduation.

The notification from the adviser or program coordinator with the new graduation date must arriveat the Registrar's Office prior to the deadline to apply for graduation (this deadline is published inthe university Graduate Catalog). However, a new application is not required, nor is an additionaldiploma fee.

The e-mail from the Registrar's Office to the student will also state that although the graduation fileis on Inactive Status, the student will still be eligible to register and attend classes unless there is ahold on registration related to some other matter.
