Dear Parents and Carers,
With Easter just around the corner and the promise of some much-needed sunshine heading our way, we couldn’t resist including some final photos of the snow fun in this newsletter. Our children are sure to remember this winter for a long time to come!
Despite the snow interruption, we’ve managed to keep most events in the calendar and we welcomed lots of parents to recent events. Miss Laven provided an information session to launch Class 1’s `Tapestry’ online learning journal, which proved to be popular (see back page).
Miss Jackson’s class prepared a super afternoon tea for families who attended their open afternoon. Children enjoyed sharing their work with mums and dads.
We were also thrilled to see so many mums, grandmas, dads and uncles attend Mrs Welford’s fabulous Mother’s Day lunch. Our children are always thrilled to see their families involved in school events.
A little later than planned, we celebrated World Book Day with a fantastic array of costumes! Prizes for most original outfit and most eye-catching book cover were well-deserved.
Our thoughts turn now to Easter activities and we look forward to seeing this year’s egg decorating entries. Families are most welcome to come into the hall at 2.45pm on Thursday, 29th March, to see the finished projects.
We wish all of our families a peaceful Easter break and we look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Tuesday April 17th.

British Values
Visit to Bradford
As part of their RE topic, children from KS2
visited places of worship in Bradford, to
develop their understanding of the British
Values of Tolerance and Respect.
After an early start and a long journey to West
Yorkshire, we were met by Seema, who gave an
interesting guided tour of Shree Laxmi Narayan
Hindu Temple. This is the largest and most
ornate Hindu Shrine in the North of England
and the ONLY purpose built place of worship
that has been officially opened by Her Majesty
the Queen.
Seema explained to the children the signifi-
cance of the many shrines of the Hindu Gods
and Goddesses. Working in small groups, the
children were then given the opportunity to
explore different aspects of Hindu life.
The visit was designed to give the children an
opportunity to learn about other religions,
including a chance to observe worshippers at
prayer and to handle religious objects.

Tolerance and Respect
Madni Jamia Masjid Mosque
A short journey from the Mandir took us to the Mosque,
where our guide, Fatima, gave us a fascinating insight
into life as a Muslim.
Children learnt how Muslims prepare for prayer by
washing in a special way, called `Wudu’. Fatima talked
about the Holy Book (The Qur’an) and explained about
the importance of prayer times.
Downstairs in the hall, we discovered how the local
community use the Mosque for special family times as
well as religious events.

CLASS 1 and 2 NEWS
Message from Miss Laven
It was great to see so many of you at our Tapestry launch session. Now when your child
comes home from school and says they can't remember what they've done all day, you can
share their observations with them. We look forward to hearing all about the fantastic
learning that goes on at home. If you could upload at least one observation per week then
we can talk to your child about what they've been up to at home.
This term’s space topic has inspired children to produce some amazing aliens and flying
saucers! Next term, children will start their new topic: `Enchanted Woodlands’ and a trip
to a very special place is involved.
Meanwhile Class 2 children have been busy creating healthy recipes for their `TV Chefs’
project with Mrs Pearson. As part of their Computing Curriculum, they talked about healthy
eating and what makes a good diet. They then wrote a TV script for making a fruit salad,
acted this out and took it in turns to film their class mates.
At Seton School we work very hard to help your child learn and achieve well. To do this, we need you to help us in many ways. The most important way to help and support your child is to ensure that he or she attends school and is punctual. There are many reasons for this:
Being punctual is a skill that your child will need for life. It shows a respect for others and shows that school is important.
Good attendance means that your child will be able to get the most out of school and make the most of the opportunities offered to them.
It will ensure that there are no gaps in their learning. This will mean that the important foundations for future learning will be strong.
Children who have good attendance and arrive punctually generally achieve better than those who do not. They are able to make and sustain strong relationships and have a better understanding that school is important.
