Blocks are items which may be added to the left . right or center column of any page in Moodle. The position of blocks can be themed.Any block can be made to appear in all the contexts, throughout a course or a particular activity .They may be added, hidden or protected from deletion.Blocks can be docked from top to bottom in the order in which they are docked usually on the left.Certain blocks have additional settings, which can be accessed via the links in the settings column.

Once you have logged in with administrative privileges and turned editing on you have rights to access blocks from the site administration by clicking any of the options in the screenshots.

Available blocks include:

The blog menu block provides links to view or add entries as well as context-sensitive links for adding an entry about the course or a particular activity .

The blog tags display a list of blogs with size and type distinction as to their use frequency.

The calendar block displays the following events: site, course, groups, user in reference to view permissions and range.

The community finder block allows users to access public community hubs and search for courses to download or enroll in.

The course completion status block , which can be seen by students and teachers, shows what has been done so far.

The course or site summary block provides a summary and/or description for your course or site.

The Feedback block ,which is disabled by default, may be added to courses to supply a quick link to global feedback activities set up from the front page.

A HTML block is a standard block used to add text or images on a site or course page. The title bar can be left blank.

The logged in user block displays available information about the user who is currently logged in to a Moodle course.

An activity is generally an interactive learning segment for a student in a course. Each activity is added by a pull down menu found in the course's sections.

Available blocks include:

The random glossary block can be used to display random entries from a glossary, or the quote of the day, today in history or a random picture gallery that changes each time the page is refreshed.

The Recent activity block lists course activity, such as updated resources and activities, forum posts and assignment submissions, since the user’s last access.

This block can be configured to display the last blog entries, filtered by context.

The RSS feeds block enables regular updates from external websites to be displayed within Moodle.

The Search forum block allows you to search the course forums for a word or phrase.

The self completion block provides a link for students to declare that they have completed the course as part of the requirements.

The tags block allows managers to label and classify items as a filter in searches.

The Upcoming events block displays future events in a summarized list determined by the calendar.
