MASTHEADThe masthead is almost hidden on this front cover which shows that the magazine brand is well known and does not rely on its name to make sales. The pink colouring compliments the outfit that the cover star, Nina Dobrev, is wearing. This pulls together the whole magazine and makes it flow better.

MAIN COVER IMAGEThe image is the most prominent which emphasises the importance of the cover star. It also shows the importance of the clothing to the magazine because the dark red, purple and orange colours contrast to the light beach background of the magazine. Nina is also a celebrity respected for her style which further represents that it’s a fashion magazine. She is also star of a teenage sci-fi show which represents the teenage target audience.

MAIN COVER STORYThe cover story is written in a large font, larger than that of the masthead which tells us that it is very important and is something that the magazine is using to draw in readers and give them an insight as to what's inside. The fact that the story emphasises ‘under $20!’ tells teenagers (their target audience) that the stories are accessible to them and that it is promoting high street fashion. The use of the orange also connotes autumn as it is a colour typically linked with fallen leaves and Halloween.

BARCODEThis is a typical convention of a magazine, it is found on every single magazine and is very typically found in the bottom left corner however recently some magazine have broke the convention by placing the barcode in other places.

COMPETITIONAnother convention of magazines as it makes the readers feel more involved and allows them to be interactive with the magazine. Free gifts also push people to purchase the mag. However this magazine hasn’t promoted it too much as it has more focused featured it would rather promote e.g. articles inside.

IMAGES FROM INSIDE THE MAGAZINEThe images are both within the magazine and show star of the hit TV show ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev modelling the latest trends for Autumn. The first image fits in with the theme of autumn as all of the growing crops have gone and she is seen sat on a stack of brown hay. She is also wearing warmer clothing such a high brown boots and a grey patterned jumper which would not been seen in a summer or winter edition of the magazine. The bright yellow skirt adds an element of fun and light to the image which is often lacking in autumn photo shoots. Her makeup is also minimum which creates an innocent casual tone to the image, it also makes her more relatable to the readers of the magazine.

The second image is very similar to the front cover image as Nina is dressed In the same outfit at the same location however her pose is different and shows a different side to the outfit. The outfit is the perfect representation of Autumn in my opinion because the darker colours such as red and purple connote the falling leaves of trees that occur during this time but isn't as dark as the colours that would typically be found in a winter outfit. Her hair is tousling in the wind which adds fun and innocence to the images which again makes her more relatable to the audience as she doesn’t appear as a glammed up celebrity. She looks more approachable and friendly.

EXAMPLE OF AN ARTICLE IN THE MAGAZINE.

Between autumn and summer fashion and beauty trends change and this is an example of how. Summer is typically about bright makeup with emphasis on bright lipstick shades such as pink and red. Where as in autumn more neutral colours come into fashion such as browns, lighter pinks and peaches. This article informs the readers of the latest trends, where they can buy them and what brands are best to buy. I think this is good because it helps the audience and guides them in accessing the latest trends. The fact that this page is dedicated to brunettes shows that the magazine have taken into consideration the different dynamics of their audience and caters to their needs. It also implies that there will be a related page about blondes, red heads and other possible colours. This page has inspired me to broaden my horizons and not just souly focus on clothes because it may become about boring. The use of beauty draws together the outfits and completes them.
