WHY CATHOLICS DO NOT ATTEND CHURCH ON A REGULAR BASIS

There are about fifty to sixty million baptized Catholics in America. Of these, some 30% are regular church-

goers and the other 70% do not attend church at all, or do so but rarely, or on an irregular basis. Still a few,

for whatever reason, may prefer or find it convenient to go to a non-Catholic church. The following are ten

reasons why Catholics do not attend church. See if any of these apply to you.

Reason #1. Hectic schedule

Reason #2. Laziness

Reason #3. The poor example of clergy and churchgoers

Reason #4. "The Mass is boring"

Reason #5. Loss of faith in the Eucharist

Reason #6. Lack of support from a spouse or extended family

Reason #7. Hassle of getting very young children ready and keeping them quiet in church

Reason #8. Problems with some of the Church’s teachings

Reason #9. Bad things happening to good people can cause some Catholics to separate themselves

from God and Church

Reason #10. I do my own thing spiritually. I don’t want to be involved with an institutional church with all its

rules and laws

The Two Poles of Christian Life are Prayer and Action. The Christian life is a continuous going into the pres-

ence of God from the presence of men and coming out into the presence of men from the presence of God.

Food for Thought

The Parable of the Pencil

The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside just before putting him into the box. “There are 5 things you need to

know,” he told the pencil. “Before I send you out into the world, always remember them and never forget, and

you will become the best pencil you can be.”

1) You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone's hand.

2) You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you’ll need it to become a better pencil.

3) You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

4) The most important part of you will always be what's inside.

5) On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must

continue to write.

The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in it’s heart.

Now, replacing the place of the pencil with you, always remember them and never forget, & you will become

the best person you can be.

1) You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God’s hand, and

allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.

2) You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time by going through various problems,

but you'll need it to become a stronger person.

3) You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

4) The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside.

5) On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must

continue to do your duties.

By understanding and remembering, let us proceed with our life on this earth having a meaningful

purpose in our heart.

Have you talked to God Today?

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can,

And the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,

Enjoying one moment at a time,

Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;

Taking as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is,

Not as I would have it,

Trusting that You will make all things right

If I surrender to Your will

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life

And supremely happy with You forever,

Having faith in Jesus my Savior.

Amen

CONVALIDATION OF A CATHOLIC MARRIAGE

We have had the honor of offering the Sacrament of Mar-riage to the people of our Parish Community for many years. It has been a joy to unite two people in the eyes of God into this precious grace filled status. Often when par-ents register to have their child Baptized or during the RCIA Formation Program, we find out that some validly baptized Catholics have not contracted their marriages in the Catholic Church. This is often due to timing, couples of different faith or the wish to have a destination wedding etc. I am reaching out to you to let you know that we are making a conscious effort during the Month of May to reach out to our Parishioners to see if they wish to have their marriages convalidated in the Church. To qualify for this, the criteria includes: * A Catholic couple with all their sacraments that got married only legally or at a destination. * A couple that got mar-ried by a non-Catholic minister in another Christian Church or secular setting. * A couple that got married prior to one of them receiving their sacraments. * In some cases we may need to file some papers with the Met-ropolitan Tribunal of Archdiocese and the dispensations can be had without much delay. The con-validation itself is simple. It entails a short blessing in the Church and the filing of some paperwork. If you or one of your children, family members or friends have questions and believe they may be eligible for a con-validation, feel free to speak with any of the Priests or Deacons. The Archdiocese of New York has increased access for in-dividuals who believe they may meet the criteria to receive an annulment. Please speak with any of the Priests or Deacons for a consultation. I pray and hope all interested parties will think about this and take a positive decision. All inquiries are confidential. May God Bless you,

Fr. Frank

.
