    Seventh-Day Sabbath KeepingHere is what I wrote to a young lady, who was mixed up with Seventh Day Adventists.

    She loaned me a book that they gave her to prove their position on commanding the

    observing of the seventh day sabbath. I am afraid I have forgotten the title of the book.Here is my reply, based on the layout of the book.

    Dear miss,

    I have been looking over the book you loaned me written by the Seventh Day Adventists.Here are some initial responses to how they view the Sabbath day. I will briefly refer to

    their stands in the outline form as presented in their book. he parts about the !ld

    However, concerning the !ld estament, the /ew estament scriptures say#

    0If that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the

    In this section of the book, they list 6 meanings of the Sabbath. his is as if to say that

    these meanings, in and of themselves, are evidence of the continuance of the !ld

    estament observance of the Sabbath day. Again, note that they still fail to give scripturalcommand for the observance of the Sabbath in the /ew estament. ut can we give

    scripture that shows these 0meanings0 are meant to be fulfilled in the /ew estament

    promise of the Holy Spirit;

    =lease notice that, again, the book does not "uote one verse of /ew estament scripture

    that commands keeping the Sabbath in memorial of the creation.

    '. Symbol of @edemption &pg. '++*

    Although Deut. +5$+ is referred to, once again, they actually "uote no scripture in thissection, they state only their interpretations. 9hat do some of the scriptures say in regard

    to the Holy %host being a sign of redemption;

    0...he Holy %host fell on &the %entiles* as on us at the beginning &i.e. Acts '5$3(*...

    redemption of the purchased possession...0 32phesians $ 5$-3$(.

    -. Sign of Sanctification &pg. '++*

    Again, the scriptures themselves do not make the statements that this book presents as

    commandments3

    "He who !rom the heart obeys the !ourth commandment will obey the whole law."

    ut what does the scripture say in regard to sanctification and the Holy %host;

    0...I should be the minister of :esus 7hrist to the %entiles... that... the %entiles might be

    and in their minds will I write them... by a new and living way...0 3Hebrews $5$(3'.

    (. Sign of Boyalty &pg. '+*

    Again, they give their interpretations, not directly stated scripture, for this opinion. ut

    we have only to "uote scripture to declare what those who stand solely on the 9ord of%od believe, and the 0Sign of Boyalty0 that %od gives them#

    0If ye love me keep my commandments. And I will pray the 1ather. and He shall give

    . Sign of @ighteousness by 1aith &pg. '+*

    In the book they write3

    "...rue Sabbath keeping reveals... a sign o! righteousness by !aith."

  • 7/29/2019 Seventh-Day Sabbath Keeping

    7/33

    If this 0Sabbath keeping0 is so important, why are they having such a hard time finding

    scripture to state their doctrine for them; @ather, the scriptures continue to speak in

    contradiction to their words#

    01or we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 1or in :esus 7hrist

    neither circumcision &another !.. sign of faith, @om. (5$$ * availeth anything, nor

    man have not the Spirit of 7hrist, he is none of His. And if 7hrist be in you, the body is

    6. A Symbol of @esting in 7hrist &pg. '+6*

    Fnder this heading they write3

    "he rest to which od invites... is a spiritual rest... it is o! this rest that both the

    Sabbath and Canaan are symbols."

    !ur final "uestion, to be answered from the scriptures alone, is3 Does the symbolical

    remain when the substance appears;

    09hen =eter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to beblamed... I said unto =eter before them all, If thou, being a :ew, livest after the manner of

    the %entiles. and not as do the :ews. why compellest thou the %entiles to live as do the

    :ews;... Gnowing that a man is not 8ustified by the works of the law, but by the faith of:esus 7hrist, even we have believed in :esus 7hrist, that we might be 8ustified by the faith

    of 7hrist, and not by the works of the law5 for by the works of the law shall no flesh be

    8ustified... 01or if the inheritance be of the law. it is no more of promise5 but %od gave it

    to Abraham by promise. 9herefore then serveth the law; It was added because oftransgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made... 9herefore the

    law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto 7hrist, that we might be 8ustified by faith. ut

    after faith is come. we are no longer under a schoolmaster0 3%alatians '5$ $,$(,$, -5$43$),'(3'+

    0he ministration of death, written and engraven in stones... was to. be done away0 3'

    7orinthians -56.

    hey do continue with more examples, 8ust as the examples above, which I feel it would

    really be redundant to continue going over. I hope you can see the difference in how theyderive doctrine, and how I have declared doctrine. heir doctrine stands almost entirely

    on their personal interpretations of scripture. ut, since I have merely "uoted scripture tostate my beliefs, I feel I can safely say, like the apostle, that the

    0...hings that I write unto you are the commandments of the Bord0 3$ 7orinthians $(5-6.

    I am confident that should any professing Seventh3Day Adventists read this, their

    response would probably be that I have misunderstood their belief. he fact remains, thatthey can not "uote one scripture from the /ew estament commanding the observance of

    one day above another in service to the Bord, even of the Seventh3day Sabbath. And
