Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time - In the Gospel today, the owner of the vineyard sent messengers to collect his share of the harvest from the tenant farmers; but there was not a single good steward on the property! God is the owner, we are the tenants. What sort of stewards are we?

Page 3: SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 8, …stcharlesfortwayne.org/Data/Pages/d44447d8299aff9e0ea2bbc3ffa18c7… · John Magsam, Mike & Susan Maskal, Dorla Rice (C Mary Ann Slater)

TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 8, 2017

A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR . . . We are canceling the 6:30 p.m. evening Mass on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The diocese is providing Continuing Education days for priests this week, and all three St. Charles priests will be attending the talks at Pokagon State Park. A priest will return to Fort Wayne to cover the morning Masses and any emergencies during that time. Only the evening Masses on Tuesday and Wednesday are cancelled.

As I mentioned in last week’s bulletin, I would like to begin offering Communion under both species at Sunday Masses. Since our ministry schedules are assigned several months at a time, we will likely begin with Lent. More ministers will be needed to make this possible. If you would be willing to help, please contact me or leave your contact information on the clipboard on the Gathering Space table. We will schedule sessions in the fall to reflect on this ministry and to be trained in the specifics. We will be able to offer both species only at those Masses which have an adequate number of ministers.

Next weekend we will have an RCIA ritual at the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Those adults who are preparing for baptism will be officially declared catechumens, and those baptized Christians who are preparing to become Catholic will be officially recognized as candidates for the sacraments. Please keep these people in prayer. For those of us who have always been Catholic, it is exciting to see others come to find the beauty of this faith.

We welcome our seminarians home on fall break this week and I would guess we will have a chance to see much of them around the altar. Our seminarian bake sale was a fantastic success, raising $ 28,000 to help support the seminarians.

ANNUAL BISHOP’S APPEAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

In preparation for this year’s Annual Bishop’s Appeal, we are greatly in need of volunteers to assist with the follow-up phone campaign the evenings of Tues., November 14 and Wed., November 15. This is a great opportunity to meet fantastic new people from the parish. Training scripts are provided to make it very easy to do. Again this year, we will be using Redeemer Radio’s incredible facility, which is close to the parish and allows us to support each other as calls are made. As an added bonus, cookies, coffee, and drinks are provided each night!

If you are interested, there are volunteer cards located at the entrances of church.

Thank you for sharing your valuable time to help with this much needed activity. If you have any questions, please call Tony Gray at 260-

452-7649 or email [email protected].

ANNUAL BISHOP’S APPEAL

Today we gather and are united as a family in St. Charles Parish. As a family, we are challenged to reflect on our many blessings and to recognize our responsibility to share these blessings with Our Lord. Bishop Rhoades is asking us to support our parish and diocesan family by achieving 100% participation of all the house holds that make up our parish. The bonds that join us in our diocesan family are strong and prayerful and filled with encouragement. Your gift will be a blessing to you and to others.

Please pray for the following members of our parish community who will marry soon.

III Katie Rogers - Dyllon Brown

II Shelby Honekamp - Stephen Wuest

I Jamie Thrower - Eric Millhouse

ST. CHARLES VOCATION COMMITTEE

Dismiss all anxiety from your minds. Let us present our needs to God in the form of prayer and petitions full of gratitude. Let us pray for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. (Philippians 4.6-9)

VOCATION CROSS PROGRAM Next weekend, October 15, Dan & Carol Offerle will take home the Vocation Cross. They will pray daily throughout the week for an increase in vocations.

A Special Event on Formed—”The Bible and the Sacraments—Journey through Scripture” - Starting October 9, watch the Bible and the Sacraments on FORMED! Each week, two new episodes of this powerful and enriching series from the St. Paul Center will be released for a limited time only. This beautifully filmed, eleven-part series investigates the deeper mystery of the sacraments as illuminated by Sacred Scripture. The Sacraments are more than mere earthly rituals. They are incredible “powers that come forth’ from the Body of Christ”.
