For the last two years, we have been working with AfghanMade,

originally part of a task force set up by the U.S. Government to

help create a truly independent Afghan carpet industry for export

to the world. With the recent troop withdrawals, AfghanMade has

now become an independent non-profit organisation. We visited

Afghanistan in the early spring of 2014 and despite immense

logistical difficulties, feel it is worthwhile, for many reasons to

help support and create a market for their exceptional skills.

Afghan rug weavers are drawn from ancient tribal peoples and

landscapes, and their work has an enduring and precise quality,

which puts them at the forefront of contemporary weaving.

At Christopher Farr, we are known for inviting artists and designers

who can bring something new to this ancient art form. With the help

of Wallpaper Magazine, we have invited GamFratesi, Fredrikson

Stallard, Kim Thome, and Michael Young, all leading European

designers, to collaborate with us and they have brought a refined

and exquisite edge to an ongoing debate.
