II. MissionStatement

MissionStatement:

StudentGovernmentgiveseveryundergraduatestudentthechanceto

practiceanddevelopleadershipskillswhilerepresentingtheirpeersandimproving

theUniversityandstudentlife.StudentsinvolvedinStudentGovernmenthavethe

chancetointeractwiththeUniversityadministrationandfacultyandworkina

collaborativemannertobettertheinstitution.StudentGovernmentmembersare

respectedasleadersofthestudentbody,andtheirinputisoftensoughtinmaking

importantdecisionsfortheUniversityofMiami.

Student Government members are above all public servants. Members

recognize the value of the opportunity awarded to them by their piers and the

necessity for them to work tirelessly to improve student life and university

standards. Their duty to the student body supersedes their own personal and

impersonal needs.

efficiency,quality,progressionandachievement.Whilewetrulyappreciatethe

Universityandvalueofthecurrentadministration,wealsounderstandthatthereisalwaysroomforadvancement.Weintendtoseekoutallpossibleareasof

contentionandaddresstheminaneffectivemanner.

1. Efficiency Improvingefficiencyisbothashorttermandalong-termstrategyto

success;itisneededtoreducecostsinareasonablemannerandallocatemoremoneytowardsacademics,research,athletic,andon-campusrelatedactivities

thatsupporttheUniversityspirit.Atthesametime,wewillfighttodifferentiate

betweenwastefulconsumptionandessentialspending.

Suchanattitudewillinitiatemorestudentparticipationinregardsto

specificacademic,athletic,researchandstudentinvolvementobjectives.

Increasingefficiencywillalsoallowustomakenecessaryamendmentswithouta

riseincostforstudents.Inregardstothecurrenteconomicclimate,wewillfully

acknowledgeandrespectthesensitivityoffinancialissues.

Efficiencyalsoencompassesthespeedandcompetencywithwhichprocedures

areexecuted.Weplantofacilitatetheinteractionsoftheadministrationand

studentssothatfurthercommunicationcanbedevelopedandenhanced,

especiallyinregardstoclassesandconflictresolution.

2. Quality Thequalityofouracademics,researchandstudentlifeiscrucialforour

Universitytomaintainandimproveitsreputationandtoriseinvariousrankings.

Althoughtheseattributesareoftendirectlyfinanciallyrelated,therearemany

waystoimprovetheUniversitythatdonotrequiresubstantialamountsofcapital.

Incontrasttopreviousadministrations,weplantoenhancethequalityofthe

universityexperiencethroughtheincreasedexcitementofstudentsandfaculty,

andthroughanamplificationofschoolspirit.

Wemayneedtoobtainfundsforafewofourkeyinvestmentprojects;however,wearesureofouraspirationtoaugmenttheschoolspiritandsenseof

belonging.Ourintentionistocompensateforthemonetarydeficitbyincreasing

thequalityofstudentlife.

Ratherthanincreasingtheamountofineffectivestudentactivities,weplanto

emphasizetheenthusiasmofthestudentbodyonpresentevents,bothacademic

andathletic.

3. ProgressionDespitetheobstaclestoprogressionthatthecurrenterapresents,we,asa

competitiveuniversity,mustriseabovetheselimitationsandnotonlymaintain

butimprovethestandardsofexcellencethathavebeendeterminedforus.

Althoughdependentonachievement,quality,andefficiency,progressionis

definedbyourabilitytonotjustfollowbutsetthepaceforoutstandinguniversities.

4. Achievement Academic,athletic,extracurricularandprofessionalachievementiscrucial

fortheUniversitysgrowthandreputation.Wewillorganizeandpromoteevents

toappreciate,discussandacknowledgevariousachievementsofourstudentsand

alumni.Ourgoalistocreateaproactiveenvironmentwheresuccessisrecognized

andrewarded.

TheUniversityofMiamiwillutilizeallofitssuccessfulstudentsandalumni

throughachievementpromotionandstimuliprogramsincreasingtherenownof

boththeUniversityanditsaffiliations.Wewillalsodeveloparelationshipwith

theprestigiousacademiccommunityoutsideoftheUniversity.

IV.StudentLifeStudentGovernmentrevenue/constantincomeandfundallocation

towardsstudentlifeactivities

WebelievethatStudentGovernmentshouldplayamorevitalroleinthe

Universitysmonetarydistribution,especiallytowardsvariousstudentactivities.

Withthissentiment,wewouldlikeStudentGovernmenttoassumethe

responsibilitytoraisemoneyandallocatethisextracapitaltowardsspecific

assignmentsandprojects.

WebelievethattheStudentGovernmentshouldruntheUMC-Store,with

twomainobjectives:toraisemoneyforanewlycreatedStudentGovernment

fundandtoincreasestudentemployment.StudentGovernmentshouldhavefull

financialcontrolovertheC-storeanditsexpenditures.Profitsgeneratedwouldbe

allocatedbacktotheUniversityandthestudentsratherthantoaprivateowner.

campus.
