MULTIPHASE MEASUREMENT SERVICES

q As a growing number of operators replace bulky test separators with Wet Gas VenturiMeters or MultiPhase Flow meters (MPFM), there is an increasing need to be able to verify& tune these systems to the fluid properties passing through without the use of traditionaltest separators.

q Alternative measurement techniques exist that avoid production deferment that are lowfootprint; are available that meet all the requirements of standard Production or LETTesting.

q To aid in these challenges, SGS provide alternative multiphase measurement and samplingservices designed to allow operators to verify multiphase flow rates with zero operationaldisruption.

SGS MULTIPHASE SAMPLING USING HEATED SIDESTREAM EX RATED MINI-SEPARATORS

EVALUATION

n Phase sampling is a technique of separating amultiphase flow using a Heated 20L or other MiniSeparator unit connected to a sample point along withinjectable sampling probes – without the need for a fullbore separation system

n The mini separator unit will be kept at line/metercondition thus keeping the fluid properties from anyphase partitioning

n This will act as a phase separation device for themultiphase fluid allowing SGS to take representativepressurised Gas and Condensate samples from theflow stream as well as atmospheric water samples forionic properties

n These are analysed for composition and the CGRmeasured via the tracer dilution used to calculate theoverall wellstream composition

Good measured K-Factors vs theoretical K-Factors indicate samples taken are in equilibrium – eg MiniSep was stable during sampling

WELLSTREAM COMPOSITIONAL ANALYSIS

n Pressurized gas and condensate samples collected fromsampling will be sent to an SGS PVT laboratory for analysis

n The analysis will include;§ Restoration of sample to sampling condition (P & T)§ Measure the bubble point of liquid sample to ensure it

is collected at single phase condition§ Perform gas compositional analysis by GC on gas

sample§ Perform flash separation on liquid sample followed by

compositional analysis including shrinkage – correctCGR using lab shrinkage

§ Use CGR from Tracer and perform mathematicalrecombined to obtain wellstream composition

§ Calculate the water fraction base on water rate (ifnecessary)

n Use this data to generate flow computer input table

n Optional - Perform physical recombination of PVT Samplesusing CGR and perform routine/advanced PVT on selectedrecombination sets

ISO-KINETIC CGR MEASUREMENT & TESTING

n Iso-kinetic sampling utilizing a Isokinetic Manifold provides accurate measurement of condensate-gas ratio(CGR) and water-gas ratio (WGR) at the wellhead before the effect of Joule Thomson at downstream ofchoke

n Apart from providing independent measurement of CGR and WGR compared to test separator, highlyrepresentative PVT sample can be obtained for further PVT studies.

n Iso-kinetic sampling is widely used; especially in lean gas-condensate wells where traditional Separators orMPFM’s struggle for accuracy.

Iso-kinetic Sampling skid – the skid was designed to withstand the well pressure of 10,000 psi with operating temperature of 120°C. The function is to capture the entire flow from the wellhead and out through to flow streamer when the well is fully cleaned up. It has to be rigged up at the upstream of choke manifold for typical well testing operation.

10K Sampling probe – the sampling probe will extract iso-kinetically a portion of well stream from the flow line into the Iso Field-Lab. The sampling probe can be positioned across the pipeline in order to capture the flow stream and confirm the true CGR / WGR.

Iso Field-Lab – the Iso Field-Lab is where the separation vessel located. It has to be rigged as close as possible to Iso-Kinetic Manifold. The gas will be processed at a controlled pressure and temperature conditions and subsequently liquid and gas will be separated. The accumulated liquid and gas from the processing will be measured accurately. PVT samples can be taken once CGR has been confirmed.

TESTING

ü Superior CGR/WGR measurements to Test Separatorwith lean gas wells due to upto to 15x better retentiontime

ü Can be operated at different conditions than lineconditions to further evaluate condensate yieldindependently of a test separator

ü Can be set to sub-ambient temperatures for extremelean condensate systems to enable Phase sampling ofsufficient liquids for PVT experiments

ü Wide operating range of up-to 60MMSCF/D or more.

ü Measurements can be made onsite to determine if fluidis single or multiphase at surface, which may eliminateneed for expensive downhole sampling operations.

ü Allows smaller test separators to be mobilized forappraisal purposes

ü Combining Isokinetic with either Test Seps or MPFMsfor appraisal based testing for lean gas wells canprovide superior CGR measurements with confidence

ISOKINETIC CGR MEASUREMENT & TESTING

§ This is the fluid handling facility for the fluidfrom the iso-kinetic manifold.

§ The gas will be measured by high accuracygas meter (high flow meter – HFM)throughout each CGR/WGR measurement.

§ Separator Vessel is set to unique P&T foreach measurement as dictated by theClient.

§ Upon completion of processing the gas, theliquid will be flashed out via dip-tube andmeasure using measuring cylinder.

§ CV – calibrated volume is pre-determinedvolume to measure field shrinkage ofcondensate, typically circ. 450ml.

§ PVT Samples are then collected atpressure for offsite or onsite PVT Analysis
