TRAVELLING BY BUS TO RICHARD HUISH COLLEGEThe Government is working to make sure transport is not a barrier to people accessing education establishments from September.

There are many ways students can travel to places of education. Students are encouraged to walk, cycle or drive to college.

If students are using public transport, they should continue to follow government guidelines to make sure they can travel safely on the network. They should plan their journey in advance and allow more time to get to college. By law, they must wear a face covering for the whole of their journey if they are over 11 years and are not exempt, wash or sanitise their hands regularly and social distance where possible.

We have been working closely with Transporting Somerset to make sure there is additional network capacity where needed. This includes closing some routes to the general public making them accessible to students only, making sure our students do not mix with the general public. As students are travelling with their peers on these services, the social distancing guidance is relaxed and the full seated capacity of the vehicle can be used, although no standing passengers are allowed. Students will still be required to wear a face covering.

We have also added duplicate vehicles on certain routes to increase capacity where required. Students will be directed by the driver to the student only bus, however, if this becomes full and students need to board the normal public service, social distances rules of 1 metre plus will apply.

WHICH BUS TICKET IS BEST FOR ME? Transporting Somerset have taken the decision to suspend the 2020/21 County Ticket scheme due to the on-going impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For those students who need to access public transport from September, purchasing tickets directly from the bus operator would be the most flexible and cost-effective option under the current circumstances.

CODE OF CONDUCTRichard Huish Students are expected to abide by the following Code of Conduct. If you are found to be in breach of this Code of Conduct, the college will bring disciplinary action against you and possible sanctions from the bus companies.

• To behave appropriately and with consideration, refrain from anti social behaviour, verbal or physical to all the other passengers.

• Refrain from any reckless behaviour and report any incidents to the driver or a member of college staff immediately.

• Do not smoke or vape on the buses at any time.

• Do not distract the driver, make undue noise or throw items at each other.

• Bullying or harassment towards others will not be tolerated.

• Defacing or damaging any part of a vehicle could lead to you paying the cost of the repairs or criminal charges brought against you.

• Breaking the law in relation to possession, taking or dealing with illegal substances, alcohol or solvents will result in a college disciplinary being put in place and your place at college being in jeopardy.

• We expect you to act as an ambassador for the college whilst travelling on any public service.

• Face coverings must be worn.

Please note that the bus companies have the right to prosecute or ban you from travelling on their services.

PARKING AT HUISHStudents who drive to college can park in the car park at the back of the College or the overflow car park at Bishop Fox’s School. Parking permits can be purchased in September. Students living in the TA1 postcode are not eligible to apply for a permit, or to park on site.

A permit does not guarantee a parking space, they are available on a first come first serve basis.

There is no charge to park your moped or motorbike on site and there are designated parking spaces for these.

If students prefer to park in the residential areas surrounding college, they should be aware of any restrictions (eg permit parking) and be mindful of local residents/businesses.

There are plenty of bike rack spaces for our students to cycle to College and lock their bikes during the College day.
