When was Shakespeare born? No one knows! But based on his Baptismal records, scholars assume that his birth date was April 23, 1564. If that’s the case, then he died on his 52nd birthday. (This year marks his 450th birthday!)

Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway when he was just 18 years old. She was 26 and pregnant with their first child, Susanna.(Not this

Although his works can be challenging to understand, Shakespeare wrote in modern English. If he had written in Old English or even Middle English, you would not be able to understand him at all.

Shakespeare invented over 1,700 words in the English language, including “lonely” and “swag.”

Page 7: Shakespeare and Plot Diagrams

Throughout his life, Shakespeare wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets (that we know of.) The shortest of his plays is “The Comedy of Errors,” which we will see performed tomorrow.
