Harvey 2 and 3 Wells

The DDH1 Evolution 3000 Mineral Rig – operating in Wiluna early in 2014.

Harvey 2 and 3 wells are part of a Shallow Well Drilling Program in the Harvey-Waroona area for the South West Hub Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) feasibility project.

(CCS) is a proven technology used to store carbon dioxide in deep underground reservoirs and is one of the key strategies designed to minimise CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

The Department of Mines and Petroleum is responsible for the drilling program and has the support of State and Federal governments as well as industries within the region.

The program is targeting the saline Lesueur Formation at a depth of between 800 and 3,200m below the surface. To date, each stage in a series of data acquisition and analysis activities has confirmed the reservoir potential of the Lesueur.

South West Hub Invesitgation Program2D Seismic Survey - conducted in February 2011;

Harvey 1 stratigraphic well - drilled to 2,945m in February-March 2012;

3D Seismic Survey - undertaken in February-April 2014

Shallow Wells

Three wells are being drilled to gather rock core samples, water samples and electronic logs to further improve our understanding of the underground

• Harvey 2 to 1,200 metres commencing December 2014

• Harvey 3 to 1,500 metres commencing February 2015

• Harvey 4 to 1,850 metres commencing December 2014

Data from the 3D Seismic Survey informed the location of the three shallow wells.

Drilling DetailsThe Harvey 2 and Harvey 3 wells are to be drilled within three months, starting in December 2014 with 24/7 operation at each drilling location. The drilling ends in April 2015.

Drilling Target: The Eneabba Formation and Yalgorup Member of the Lesueur Sandstone, with a total depth reaching approximately 50m into the Wonnerup Member.

Depth: Harvey 2 – 1,200m & Harvey 3 – 1,500m

Drilling contractor: DDH1

Type of Drill: Diamond Core/Mineral

Rig information• Evolution 3000 Mineral Rig

• Truck mounted diamond core drill

• Height: 13m

• Weight: 36 tonnes

• Drive engine: 265 kilowatts

• Drill pipe diameter: 101-125mm

Site footprint: Approximately one hectare, with an access road plus fencing.

Geological Objectives: Confirm the prognosed stratigraphy;

Collect core samples from the Eneabba Formation and Yalgorup Member of the Lesueur Sandstone for testing rock strength, seal capacity and reservoir characterisation;

Collect groundwater samples from the Eneabba Formation and Lesueur Sandstone (Yalgorup Member and Wonnerup Member);

Collect electronic data through the layers;

Vehicles: Trucks will be used to bring equipment in at the start (mobilisation) and the finish (demobilisation) of the drilling at each location. During the drilling campaign, a number of 4WD vehicles will transport crew, and once a week there may be a water truck, a vacuum pump vehicle for waste and a fuel truck visiting the site.

Personnel on site: Ten during the day and five at night.

Rehabilitation: The drilling sites will be rehabilitated to a standard established in the Land Lease Agreement with landholders, and as required to meet all regulatory approvals.

Leasing by DMP: Land access has been negotiated with landholders on a voluntary basis, and drilling sites will be leased on a commercial basis from the landholders for the duration of the drilling, rehabilitation and beyond.
