PROFILE

Senior ICT Professional with 16 years’ presales experience working for world-class storage vendors in the ICT industry in Australia and the UK.

My persuasive skills whilst engaging with customers have earned me a reputation with the sales as well as the product marketing teams as being one of the best presenters and technical demonstrators to be put in front of key prospects. Presenting and demonstrating solutions to articulate the value proposition to C-level customers are easily my most natural skills.

I was a solid presales engineer for NetApp in both the UK and Sydney for a total of nine years. I joined the storage start-up company 3PAR in 2010 which was acquired in December of that year by Hewlett-Packard. At 3PAR I became the Asia Pacific team lead managing five system engineers and reporting directly to the worldwide systems engineering director. I gained invaluable knowledge during this period such as appreciating cultural protocol and how to foster good team motivation in a fast growing start-up. This earned me a “Significantly Exceeds” review as we were acquired by HP, the highest accolade that HP could provide in the annual review process. I went on to train over 300 HP consultants, partners and customers over the next 1-2 years in 3PAR technology and was highly regarded as the principal systems engineer for 3PAR in the Asia Pacific region.

Within HP I was given the opportunity to become an Infrastructure Strategist for a couple of years. This involved interviewing C-level staff and their direct reports only, to assess their I.T level of maturity. I would then offer strategic guidance on developing their I.T processes and technology for their future success.

For the last 12 months I was hand-picked to lead the presales initiative for the newly created Backup Recovery and Archive (BURA) team for Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and New Zealand.

I was chosen for this role as it was considered a start-up role whereby growth in HP’s backup and archive solutions was expected to grow in line with 3PAR’s high growth. I travelled extensively in this territory developing partner/distributor skills in BURA as well as evangelising to key customers. Deal highlights include Commonwealth Bank of Australia, TNT Express and Leightons.

EXPERIENCE & ACHIEVEMENTS

Senior Systems Engineer for Storage, Backup Recovery and Archive

Hewlett-Packard December 2010 - Current BackgroundHewlett-Packard is an American multinational information technology corporation headquartered in Palo Alto, California, United States. It provides hardware, software and services to consumers, small- and medium-sized businesses and large enterprises, including customers in the government, health and education sectors.Major Contributions

As the only natively English speaking technical engineer for 3PAR in the whole of the Asia Pacific Region during the acquisition my role was critical right from the beginning of my tenure at HP. I worked tirelessly training over 300 people throughout Asia in the first 12 months as well as doing the “day job” of presales

I was instrumental in helping to close key deals including:

- Multimillion storage deal with Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Canberra to store the Census data. This was a huge and critical win for the federal division of HP as it provided the credibility for other federal departments to see how HP's 3PAR technology would truly offer innovation. This was a huge risk for ABS as any loss of data would have made public news. This was the scariest project I have ever worked on. The director at ABS explained that losing data for the NSA would mean nobody found out, losing data at ABS would mean EVERYBODY would find out! It was also a critical time for HP to show how they were able to execute on a project based on a newly acquired technology. Daunting times but one of the most rewarding professionally. To see a great technology to be implemented success-fully as well as being able to demonstrate internally that I was able to drive this to success was enormously satisfying and cemented my reputation within HP. The project was so suc-cessful that ABS now act as a reference and opened the doors for 3PAR to be introduced into other government agencies

- Multimillion storage deal with Santos, Adelaide. One of the toughest sales cycles. An ex-tremely demanding customer who had been burned before by a rival vendor, they deman-ded a full, week long proof of concept where every area of capability was tested to the limits and it was my sole responsibility to prove the kit. This deal was worth $2.8 million and they have upgraded their 3PAR systems since then

- Medibank- Allianz Insurance

Once 3PAR was “up and running” I was asked to take on a senior position as an Infrastructure Strategist. Working closely with CIO's and their management I would offer management consulting to our top accounts. This would principally involve extensive interviewing of key senior staff within accounts with the aim of producing a detailed report with a set of recommendations. These recommendations were aimed at helping organisations increase their IT maturity model and transform their business from standardising to virtualising to automating.

I would offer help and guidance on how to transform their IT infrastructure into a service based delivery model. This has enabled me to gain status as a trusted adviser within key accounts such as Australian Air Services, Work Cover SA, McGrathNicol, Australand, Parsons-Brinckerhoff, and Allianz Insurance.

Asia Pacific Team lead – Systems Engineering3PAR February 2010 – December 2010 Background3PAR Inc. was a manufacturer of systems and software for data storage and information management headquartered in Fremont, California, USA. 3PAR produced enterprise storage products, including hardware disk arrays and storage management software. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard in 2010.

Major Contributions Alongside a country manager together we established a presence for 3PAR in Australia and

New Zealand

Team leader to the presales team in Asia Pacific including Japan, Korea, India, Singapore, China, reporting directly to the worldwide Vice president of Systems Engineering. I learned a huge amount in that role in how to approach and motivate engineers from different cultures. A fascinating and hugely rewarding experience.

Successfully helped to close first ever 3PAR deals in Australia and New Zealand. Initial accounts included Verizon and NZ based Softsource. The obvious challenge was establishing credibility and delivering enterprise quality solutions and support to new customers in a new country. We had to go the extra mile for every deal but the satisfaction was worth every minute

Senior Systems EngineerNetApp

(Sydney, Australia) September 2007 – February 2010

(London, UK) February 2001 – August 2007

Transferred to Sydney on a Sponsored 457 visa. I am now an Australian Citizen. BackgroundNetApp, Inc., formerly Network Appliance, Inc., is an American computer storage and data management company headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. It is a member of the NASDAQ-100. It was ranked on the Fortune 500 for the first time in 2012.

Major Contributions The first System Engineer in NetApp UK to help start up the Public Sector team with the sales

team. Notable wins included- LUGA (internal acronym for Large Unspecified Government Agency). I was the key SE in this deal which at the time (2005) was the largest single NetApp deal in their history worth £10.5 million pounds- Prime Minister's office. Responsible for protecting their E-mail systems and other key data using synchronous replication for Disaster Recovery
