- Always attempts to portray realism (Refuses to build sets for films, uses actual housing etc)

- Re-uses actors from his previous films. Never has totally new actors, always a familiar face.

- Encourages actors to experiment with their characters – don’t need to stick to scripts (given freedom and trust)

- Most of the actors he uses are close friends
