What are items?
• Files
• Items
• Pages
• Tasks
• Events
• Other media files
Document Sets
• Consistent groups of files
• Creating default content
• Sharing metadata between files
Folders
• Very familiar / intuitive
• Hierarchical structure of items
… but aren’t folders bad practice?
• Used extensively by Microsoft
• Support modern ways of working
• Can be used to improve the quality of
your metadata

What is an group?
• Built by the Exchange team
• Security construct
• Shared Calendar
• Centrally managed group of users
• Shared Inbox
• Provides workspaces across Office 365
• SharePoint
• Stream
• Planner
• MS Teams
and potentially even more…
• Yammer • Power BI
However, a Group isn’t an application
• Groups don’t have their own interface
• There isn’t a Group product/client to
open
Groups are the only way to use Teams So what is Microsoft Teams?
• Replacing Skype for Business
• Conference/video calls
• Instant chat
• Intra-team persistent
conversations
• Integrated SharePoint file storage
… well the ‘Teams’ part of Teams
