Our first year of football turned out better than we could have ever imagined thanks to agreat group of kids and parents. The kids all learned the basics of football, while having funand constantly improving. This football season served as a great foundation for future years

with the Sharks and I look forward to being a part of it next year.Coach Frank

We started out this season with 14 kidswho never played organized football and only7 returning boys from our previous season. The boys worked hard in practice to not onlylearn how to block and tackle, but a newoffense that was different than any offensethey had ever seen. Despite theirapprehension, the parents bought into thiswildcat offense. Everything that I had hoped toaccomplish as a coach and for my players, Idid. Not only did we go undefeated and scoreover 200 points, but we were able to get everyboy who wanted to run the football theopportunity to do so. There were two games

during the season where 12 different boys ranthe footballl. Eight boys scored touchdownsduring the season. Anyone who looked at ourteam saw a group of boys that not onlybecame good football players, but goodfriends. They laughed and had a great time, and when they needed to play hard, they did. Iam proud of every single one of them. Ourfabulous record was a total team effort.

I appreciate the tremendous support ofthe parents and their kind words. I want tothank our coaches, Ken Casey and Bill Barberfor allowing me to focus on the game andmaking sure that all the boys were playing as

much as possible. Equal thanks to our teamparent, Mitch Menarchem, who took care of allthe behind the scenes activities allowing me tofocus on football. And finally, I would like tothank the Sharks for giving me this opportunityas a head coach and for watching my back.Hopefully most of the team will return nextseason and we can continue where we left off.I had predicted that we would have a winningseason. I am so happy to say that theprediction was seriously understated. Theseboys will never forget the magic we createdthis season and neither will I.

For many of us this was our 6thand final season together. We hopedthat this year we would have hadanother successful season. We hada lot of returning players with a fewnew players mixed in. Every Playerworked hard, played strong and hadfun. This season was by far our mostsuccessful season with a record of 8-2, with 6 shut outs. The team hasworked hard together. We won as a

team and lost as a team, no oneplayer was more important thananother. We all had an important roleto play. We had a lot of fun in theprocess.

We also appreciated and arethankful for all the support andcooperation we received from ourparents. We are all sad to see theseason end because many of ourplayers will be playing only school

ball next year. We wish them all theluck in the future. It has been ourgreat pleasure to be your coachesand will miss our shark familytremendously.

Thank you,The Coaches

It is so easy to measure success bysuperficial means. A person might belabeled successful because they make a lotof money, wear expensive clothes andjewelry, get great grades or live in a bighouse. A football team is typically measuredin the same way. We always ask thequestion “what was there “record”? Just forthe sake of getting it out of the way, our “A”team went 8-2 this year with 168 points for,54 points against as well as posting 6 shutouts. A successful season? Yes I wouldagree. But maybe not on the same basis. Many people “make” money, many less“earn” it. As a football team, we earned ourfirst downs, touchdowns, shutouts andvictories as well as our losses.

Our true triumph comes from our growthas players and ultimately as a team. Theteam that I was assistant coaching duringthe playoffs was not the same team that Iwas asked to help coach in August. You see,I have been truly blessed. I was blessed thatmy sons, Jacob & Jarred, wanted to playfootball for the LIS Sharks in the summer of’07. I was blessed that Jacob was asked toplay for the 11 year old “A” team or should Isay “Family”. I have coached at many

different levels for many different sports. This is the first team I have been involvedwith where the parents were easier to dealwith then the kids. Their dedication andcommitment radiated in their boys.

So when I was asked by Coach BobPuckey to help out with the offensive line, Ijumped at the opportunity. That eventuallyled into handling the offensive with HeadCoach Tom Sullivan and Coach BobHughes. Tom, Bob and Bob gave me freerange to install a new offensive. After a fewweeks the kids bought into the system andwe were on our way. I knew they would besuccessful before they even played their firstdown. Not only did they have the skills andstrength they needed to move forward, theyhad the confidence to succeed. Not manycoaches can say that their 11 year old teamoffensive line can scheme and trap block ortheir QB can call an audible on the line afterchecking off the defense. I know I can. Theparents might not know that I even hadDanny calling his own plays for a quarter inone game. I now had confidence andrespect in them. We were not only a familybut a team. This team and season was asuccess.

I knew that our hard work as coachespaid off after our last football game as ateam. After the jubilation of winning theirfinal game, I noticed that Jacob was crying. He realized what I knew would be comingsince August 1st. He realized that all hishard work has paid off in dividends. Thesport of football is different of that of anyother sport. What was once a team shapedby individuals is now individuals molded by ateam philosophy. No other sport can instillthat type of emotion. This emotion cannotbe measured, for to measure it would onlydiminish it. That emotion is now a part of myson and a part of his team. What a GreatFootball Season!!!!!

Thanks to the Parents for letting mecoach your sons; Thanks to Tom, Bob & Bobfor letting me coach with you; Thanks to theBoys for letting me be part of your TEAM!

What started as an unstable year with the changingof our team with some kids going to the A ball teamand others coming to the Sharks for the first yearand never have seen a football field, the seasonturned out quite well. Our season finished at 500which was a good year, but the biggeraccomplishments happened behind the scenes, during the week before game day. Some of our kids that had a good season last year, seemed to have come into their own this year andbecame true athletes. We had a few kids thatcame to us this year from other teams after ourpractices had started. Our team welcomed theseboys onto the team, they caught them up on whatwe were learning and within a few days, it was likethey had been with us the entire time.In the eyes of our coaches, the players success is

not simply measured by the number of wins, butwhat the kids are learning all season. They learnrespect, discipline, teamwork, responsibility. Theylearn how to commit to something because otherpeople are relying on you. The kids after a loss, could shake the hands of the opposing team andsay "Good Game" and they would mean it. After awin, the kids knew how to say thank you when theywere told good game and not gloat at the otherteam's loss. These are the true lessons they learn. It's a pat on the back after your teammate scored atouchdown, it's the hand that is extended to ateammate when they missed a tackle and have hitthe field hard. They learn the love of the game. With all the practices, the games and scrimmagesand the outstanding coaching staff, all of thesethings of course would not be possible without the

amazing support of the parents. Our parents worktogether to be a constant support to each otherand they are wonderful supports20to their children. Our parents have been a key part of a successfulyear, and we appreciate everything that you do.To our players, Your dedication, sportsmanship andlove of the game of Football shines through each ofyou. You have made the coaching staff extremelyproud of you. Although we have 2 more yearstogether, we can not wait to see each of you playschool ball and be able to say..."Hey, I rememberhim when..." Keep up the great work through theoff season (Oh Yeah, we aren't ending, we have anIndoor Division Championship to defend). Keep upwith all the great things you are doing!Nice Season Guys!!!

The Coaching staff of the 9 year old "C" teamwould like to extend their heartfelt thanks tothe amazing & gifted group of kids they hadthe pleasure of working with this year. 18 outof 23 kids never played football before wefinished 8-1-1. The kids gave it their all everyweek & it showed..none of that would havebeen possible if it weren't for the dedication ofthe parents so we would like to give them abig shout out as well.

We look forward to seeing them all next yearThanks for a great season. - Coach Heggers

Team Mom: Jennifer TrypalukThis season our team made a number of strides throughthe improvement of individual players and how theycontributed to the team as a whole. This age group tendsto finally understand the game's requirement of anindividual effort by all players in order for any given play

to work and to that end everyone was a solid contributor.Though players develop at different rates, it is theirunderstanding of "team" that will make them betterplayers in the long run. Based on that measure, I wouldsay this year has been a complete success. - Coach Paul

My final thoughts for this yearsseason.WOW! I am so proud of everyoneof ours kids. They showed us that thelearned the words teamwork anddiscipline. For some of us this was our secondyear together, for others this was theirfirst. We worked on the fundamentals offootball, learning some basic plays andblocking. We hoped to have had funlearning football and to be successful inthe games. However, this season turnedout to be a season that totally excededour expectations. The players learnedfootball and learned how to play as a

team. They finished the season with arecord of 6-2, with the highest scoringoffense in our division and only losingtwice to one team. They never gave upeven in defeat.

We hoped that the players wouldhave developed the skills they needed tobe successful in the future and learn tolove the game. After this remarkableseason we believe this is possible. I am

proud of all the hard work that the playersput into the season and I am proud tohave been their coach. We all hope tosee them next year. We appreciated allthe cooperation and support that wereceived from the parents. We are notjust a bunch of players, coaches andparents. We have developed into a sharkfamily!!!!!

Team Mom: Sara PicorHow do you measure success? The answer in this case isGROWTH. The 2008 7 & 8 Sharks Football Team grew from agroup of children that had no experience in playing football to agroup of young boys that now have an understanding, passion& commitment to the game & to their teammates. Beyond thegrowth on the field there was growth in the lives of the players,

parents & coaches; with friendships being fostered that willcontinue to develop & last for many years to come. The 2008season was a total success for the 7 & 8 year olds & will be thecatalyst for the future involvement of the players, parents &coaches in the wonderful sport we call football.- Coach Devon M.
