Fall 2018 – Fall 2021 $952,090.00
Role: Principal Investigator
Often disregarded, preventative oral health care services and dental treatment are imperative
for good overall health and quality of life, especially among individuals ages 65 and older.
Our proposed research demonstration aims to pilot and describe an integrated care model in
which dental hygienists work alongside nursing home unit charge nurses to complete the
initial oral health screenings and dental referrals for new residents. Results of this research
may be utilized to replicate the model providing financially sustainable, appropriate, and
quality dental screenings for nursing home residents while also informing dental
reimbursement models.
