We will even have some essential oils on hand to give your homemade lip balm a “mood lifting” scent or you can go for the seasonally popular peppermint cocoa twist scent! If you have a previously used makeup receptacle that you want to reuse to hold your lip balm, clean it and bring it. Space is limited. Leader: Christie Wiser

Come join us at the Nature Center with our astronomer friends from Barnard-Seyfert Astronomical Society! They’ll bring telescopes and we’ll enjoy looks at the specialties of the winter sky. Weather permitting, we’ll have excellent views of Mars, possibly a few Geminid meteors streaking across the sky, as well as the deep sky objects Orion's Nebula, the Hyades open cluster, Andromeda Galaxy and the Globular Cluster M4. Cloudy skies? No worries! We have a Plan B! We’ll also be hosting Ms. Jada Scott, a 10-year-old student at Homer Pittard Campus School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who has dreamed of writing a book ever since she visited the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and the Adventure Science Center. Jada takes readers on an adventurous journey through the solar system aboard a red, white and purple rocket; bringing our sun, the nearby planets, moon, and even a black hole to life with insightful facts and original artwork. Come for both!

Join us in making your own backyard bird feeders at the Nature Center! During the craft time, share discussion on the species of birds that will be attracted to the feeders that you are making with SBNC staff and wildlife rehabber Devon from Lillie Birds Wildlife. Save your semi-circular cut citrus fruits and bring any pine cones to add to what will be provided for making feeders. Today at the nature center we plan to get a little “hog wild.” Being that it is Groundhog Day, we will have some fun activities featuring this mammal sometimes spotted around the park. Plus, since next week marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year and this year is the “year of the Pig,” we will also have some celebratory factors highlighting this unique cultural event.
