Shemesh Summer Camp is not just an ordinary camp. Shemesh is a place where each child is received as family. Whether you are within our walls or out on our fields, at the pool or on the playground - our beautiful Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center campus is a place where relationships are born that will last a lifetime.

Shemesh offers a variety of engaging activities. Campers have the opportunity to explore the world on a weekly field trip, dress up to show their team spirit, or compete in the all-time favorite - Color Wars. We also have special activities such as an all-camp carnival, two sleep-overs, new afternoon Chugs (activities the campers can choose from such as waterpolo or cheerleading) and ice cream at the end of each day. To top it off, our experienced and caring counselors and supervisors (whose sole focus is on keeping your camper entertained, engaged and safe) will help provide memories that will bring a smile to your child’s face for years to come.

We offer two types of summer camp: traditional and specialty. Our traditional day camp includes: instructional and free swim, arts and crafts, sports, spirit and song festivals, and field trips provided at no extra cost. Specialty camps include: sports training, art, theatre, ballet, robotics, cooking, gymnastics, and more! Each week we have activities and field trips that have a special theme for the campers to learn about new things in a fun and interactive way.

We follow the highest standards when it comes to ensuring the safety and security of your camper and we take pride in being one of the few summer camp programs in this area that is licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services.

We can’t wait to see you at Camp!Weekly Camp

ChaverimGrades K - 4th

May 27 - August 1 Chaverim gives your camper the opportunity to make new friends, try new things and make memories that will last a life time. Campers will be split into age appropriate groups and enjoy activities such as sports, games, arts & crafts as well as both free swim time and instructional swim daily. Ruach On the GoGrades 5th - 8th May 27 - August 1

Don’t stay home, get out and about! Ruach On the Go camp is designed to build strong pre-teen minds, through experiencing a wide range of activities both at the JCC and around the Valley. Ruach On the Go provides an extraordinary and unique day camp experience that offers camp-favorite activities such as sports, swimming, arts & crafts, drama and music, and also includes two field trips each week. The first field trip is focused on fun and the second trip is an amazing experience for everyone when our campers give back to the community! Some of our past community-focused trips have been volunteering at a local food bank, visiting with seniors and opportunities to learn about how to better appreciate and protect our environment. By the end of the summer, our Ruach campers will grow to be stronger, more thoughtful and more independent tweens.

traditional day camps

Grades 9th - 10th

May 27 - August 1 Our Counselor-In-Training (CIT) and Leadership Program teaches your teenager the tools needed to be a successful camp counselor and a productive member of our community, while still providing a memorable and exciting camp experience full of friendships and fun.

Our CIT and Leadership Program is a hybrid between traditional camp and a leadership training program. Campers will be split up among the different camps offered at Shemesh Summer Camp, where they will gain experience and knowledge from our counselors as they help lead our younger campers through activities and exercises. They will have an opportunity to develop leadership and engagement skills while under the watchful eyes of our veteran staff as well as participate in special events and field trips designed especially for the CIT program.

CITs will also meet as a group with our CIT Supervisor, along with different guest leaders and speakers, who will guide them through specific workshops and activities designed to teach responsibility, time management, leadership, public speaking, confidence, and childcare. They will have the chance to demonstrate what they have learned weekly when they plan, coordinate and run CIT led activities for the whole camp!

Our CIT camp is an amazing opportunity for any teen looking to broaden their skills and gain work experience while having fun in a safe environment. By the end of our Counselor in Training and Leadership program, your teen will be ready to take on any challenge with the experience gained at Shemesh Summer Camp.

Gesher Counselor-In-Training & Leadership Program

About our C.I.T. Supervisor:

Our C.I.T. Director, Marice Levy, brings her 12+ years of experience to this program to truly make it a one of a kind experience. Her ideas and concepts allow this camp to promote leadership skills, team building and strong socialization. She is able to teach these campers to have a continued sense of belonging in the Jewish youth groups, within their school’s societies and further their Jewish connections heading into college. Most

importantly, these campers are taught the values and beliefs on what makes a good counselor and transform those ideals into staff!

COLOR WARS

This is a familiar chant at Shemesh Summer Camp every July as campers participate in this much-anticipated, annual, all-camp event. Shemesh has continued the Color War tradition since 2004 and this year is no exception.

Campers and staff are broken into five different color teams and compete for points in a variety of activities focused on teamwork, creativity and spirit. Led by enthusiastic staff (Captains) and CITs, campers and staff alike show their spirit by dressing in their team color for the entire week. Everyone looks forward to traditional Color War activities, such as Watermelon Eating Contest, Penny Wars, balloon shaving, and bubblegum blowing. The week culminates with Color War Finale where the teams present banners, skits, face off in a spirited sing down featuring a cheer and march. The winning team receives the coveted Spirit Stick and 1st Place Ribbons!!!!

DON’T MISS OUT! This week is full of energy, excitement, competition and most importantly, FUN!
