“Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and

believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:22-26 Do you believe this? An interesting question for we who sit in the an age of instant communication across the world. If the picture of Jesus’ empty tomb was Skyped and posted on Faceboook all over the world on Easter morning so that every phone, laptop, and tablet would be buzzing with excitement would we really believe it? If the eyewitness of Mary Magdalene was tweeted, would we really believe Jesus stood in the garden and called her by name? If we saw his burial cloths on our screens with our own eyes, would we be in awe of what God has done or would we scoff and think that it is someone’s creation on a computer? Would we be humbled by the sight of the empty tomb of Jesus or would we think it is photo-shopped? Would we try and get to the place where the tomb lies like Peter and John to see for ourselves? And once seeing would we be like these disciples who simply could not believe what was right in front of their eyes? What does it take for people to believe the stone is rolled away on Easter morning and the grave clothes of Jesus lying neatly folded with Jesus nowhere in sight? What does it take for us to believe what is impossible for human beings to accomplish? What will help us to believe that the impossible can only be accomplished by God. Like handing over His Son, Jesus to die for our sins a crucifying death. Like moving the stone away from his tomb and rising Jesus to sit at His right hand in all glory. Like giving us the gifts of forgiveness of our sin and life everlasting in the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What will it take for us to believe and trust God enough to allow Him to be in control of our lives? What will it take for us to believe that God has made His Son Jesus the Christ the victor in the battle for our eternal souls? What will it take for us to live the new Easter life that comes from the cross and empty tomb? On Easter Sunday, we emerged from Lent new beings in Christ dying to sin with him and rising to new life with him. Jesus words are now understood by everyone that “I am the resurrection and life. Everyone who believes in me will never die.” Hopefully we all have experienced a blessed Easter season believing that God has done the impossible just for us; and may our faith give us courage to take this message out into the world! Jesus tells us from this point forward, we are his witnesses in the world in our words and actions. Let us show forth is resurrection life for all who have need to hear. In Christ’s deep love,

Pastor Kathy

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ At Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church

It is hard to believe that it is a year since I finished my field education work at Shiloh E.L.C. Where has the time flown? I would like to share some of the happenings of me and my family.

May will be a busy month for the Fischer family. I am completing my third and final year of semi-nary in a few weeks and graduate from Lancaster Theological Seminary on May 20th. It was in September, 2014 that I made contact with Pastor Kathy and asked her to be my field education site supervisor and now I am preparing to graduate seminary. It is hard to believe that three years of study have gone by so fast. On May 24th, our son, James, will graduate from York Catholic High. Again, where has all the time gone; it seems like yesterday that he was starting first grade at Wallace Elementary School. James will be attending Lebanon Valley College this fall and majoring in Athletic Training. And not to be outdone, our oldest son, Chris, is getting married on May 28th. A busy 8 days. And not to forget our middle child, Cindy; in January, she was promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Richmond, VA police department.

My journey through candidacy with the Lower Susquehanna Synod continues. I have been blessed with a wonderful relator, Celia Domines of Lancaster, who has been super supportive of my journey along with the rest of the candidacy committee to attend two seminaries at the same time. The candidacy commit-tees in the synods have a weighty task in assisting those who seek to answer God’s call to the ministry of Word and Sacrament and the ministry of Word and Service and I have experienced the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in my conversations with the Lower Susquehanna Synod candidacy committee. On July 1st, I will begin the last part of my seminary journey, internship. I will be serving a congregation in north-east Lancaster County, St. Johns Center Lutheran Church. At most internship sites, the intern and pastor are in the same ministry setting. St. Johns is a “detached site.” What that means is my supervisor is located at a nearby congregation and I will be the “pastor-in-residence” at St. Johns. I will be responsible for leading worship and preaching every week as well as all other pastoral responsibilities like Bible Study, youth min-istry, visitation and parish leadership. I am excited at where God has placed me and I am looking forward to this partnership. You are welcome to visit anytime; I would love to have you.

I want to thank Pastor Kathy and all of you for your support and prayers in this journey. I am truly blessed to have been a part of your congregation and the learning and sharing that took place.

Gratefully,

Mark W. Fischer

Choir News

We are accepting new members in the choir. Singing in the choir is the perfect way to give thanks to our Lord for all he gives us. Practices are held Thursday evening at 7:30 to 8:45. Call me at 968-9342 with questions or just show up for rehearsal. You will be glad you did. Kathy Hershey

If you don’t know, Shiloh has been blessed over the years to have an active craft group who are also knitters. One of the fruits of their labor are Prayer Shawls which they donated to Shiloh and we bless in worship. When you have anyone you know who needs to be kept warm and wrapped in prayer please take a prayer shawl and give it to them. The blessed prayer shawls are in a container in the Sacristy, the little room behind the pul-pit. Please sign you name and date on the tablet, take a card to include with the prayer shawl, and know it goes with out blessings and prayers for the person who receives it. Also, if you are a knitter, the craft ladies have retired, so we need knitters to keep our Prayer Shawl ministry going. Thank you, Pr. Kathy

Finance report: Our income continues to be above the budgeted amount, alt-hough it is very close. Through March, we budgeted for $37,308 and received $38,308. Our expenditures are under what we anticipated. We budgeted for $46,630 and spent $41,763. As of the end of March, we have spent $4,867 more than we re-ceived, so anything you can do to increase your giving so that we can decrease that

deficit would be appreciated.

During March, the congregation gave $40 to the Nursery School Fund and $121 to New Hope. We met the goal of $100 each month for New Hope for last month, but were behind the first two months of the year. Don’t wait until the end of the year to make up the deficit. Give a small amount each month to help reach our goal. Your generosity helps many people in need. Thank you for your continuing support of the congregation. Janet Smith, treasurer

Thank you to all who supported me in the Walk for Hope. I am writing this before the walk, so I don’t know the final results. Thank you for your support of New Hope Ministries. Your support helps us feed our clients and provides opportunities for job training, budget classes, cooking classes, and financial aid.

New Hope has expanded! In February, New Hope celebrated the opening of its newest location serving the New Oxford community with an Open House and dedication ceremony. During April you donated $121, 20 pounds of toiletries and 29 pounds of food to New Hope. Our goal for New Hope is $100 per month to make up for what we used to give from the budg-et. Some of the items most needed are peanut butter, tuna, canned meat, canned fruits and vegeta-bles and soup. We also need toiletries, especially toilet paper, dish soap, bath soap, paper tow-els, toothpaste and shampoo. We still have volunteer openings for the office and for the food bank. If you can spare one

morning or afternoon a week, we would love to have you join us.

See Janet Smith or Beth Slagel for information.

Fill The Truck to Feed the Children

This year at Synod Assembly we will feed the hungry with our Fill The Truck to Feed the Children initiative. In cooperation with the Pennsylvania Food Bank, we will

provide much-needed food for children who rely on free or reduced-priced school breakfasts, lunch-es and the weekend BackPack Program. These resources are not available to children during the summer months; the donated food will provide sustenance for these children.

Between now and Synod Assembly, you are invited to collect the specific food items listed below. To help “Fill the Truck,” we will have volunteers on site at Messiah College to accept donations on Fri-day, June 2 from 7am to 6 pm and again on Saturday, June 3 from 7am to 2 pm conveniently in the Starry Parking. To make deliveries easier, our shuttle service will stop at the food drop-off site on the way to the High Center so you don’t have to carry the donations too far. If your congregation do-nates an abundance of items that are difficult to manage delivery on your own at assembly, please make arrangements with someone in your congregation to deliver the donated items on Friday or Saturday.

List of suggested items for donation:

• flip top (easy open) cans of tuna fish or chicken

• peanut butter (either the to go cups or small jars)

• 100% fruit juice

• shelf-stable milk boxes

• individual serving cups of fruit

• single serve microwavable meals like Chef Boyardee or Mac and Cheese or Minute Rice ready to serve packs

• granola bars

• individual serving cups of applesauce

NOTE: All items must be labeled, factory sealed and in good condition. PLEASE PLACE ITEMS DONATED IN THE MARKED BOX IN THE NARTHEX. THANK YOU!
