VISIT FROM THE MINISTER

We are lucky enough to be hosting the Minister for

Education, Sue Ellery and also our local Member

Kevin Michel at Peg’s Creek Primary early next term.

Although a very short visit, this will be a wonderful

opportunity to showcase our school.

THANK YOU

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my

wish staff, students and families a happy and safe

holiday.

WORK SHADOW PREFECTS

Each year when the Year 6 students go on camp we

have the opportunity to provide a few selected Year 5

students with school Leadership opportunities.

Students were carefully chosen for this opportunity by

the Year 5/6 teachers as these students are able to

exhibit our school behaviour expectations, they utilise

the five Keys to Success and their teachers feel they

will manage the extra responsibilities the leadership

role entails.

Congratulations to: Kayd Gibson-Cooper , Lateisha

Gullotti Shepparbottom, Nicolas Jokovich, Hugo

Keep, Rhaeja Pratt, and Jace Robinson, who worked

with our current Prefects during week 7 and then took

on the role for week 8 admirably.

We are now taking applications for enrolments for children

entering Kindergarten and Pre-Primary in 2019. Applications are

to be made by no later than 3pm, Friday 20 July, 2018.

To be eligible to enter Kindergarten (4 year old program) in a

Government School in 2019, a child must turn four on or before

the 30th June 2019. To be eligible to enter Pre-Primary (5 year

old program) in 2019, a child must turn five on or before the 30th

June 2019.

Please come to the Administration Office with a copy of their

birth certificate, current immunisation details and proof of

address and you will be provided with all the necessary

paperwork.

An application for a Kindergarten/Pre-Primary place may be

made at ONE SCHOOL ONLY.

EDITION 5 – 21 JUNE 2018

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

STUDENT HEALTH CARE INFORMATION It is important that student health care records are

current, particularly for excursions and other out-of-

school events. The school needs you to provide

updates so that plans and emergency contact details

are maintained for appropriate management of your

child’s health care needs. If you need to, please

request a form from Karen Hancock in the Front

Office.

This year we will celebrate NAIDOC on Wednesday

27 July. The theme is “ Because of Her We Can!”

We start with a small assembly before lunch which

will then be followed by special activities and some

lunchtime clubs. Students will be encouraged to

wear NAIDOC colours for a gold coin donation. Our

gold coin donations will be going to the Karratha

Women’s refuge.

Thanks to our special events committee for their

organisation.

BIKE HELMET SAFETY

A reminder that if your child rides to school they do

need a helmet. This is a legal requirement though

more importantly is about your child travelling safely

to and from school knowing that helmets decrease the

risk of head injury by 85%.

AUSSIE OF THE MONTH

Congratulations to our three Aussie of the Month

recipients in the focus area of CONFIDENCE.

Junior awards went to Elsie Bliss and Josiah

Eslabon. The Senior award was presented to April

Fogarty.

YEAR 6 BROOME CAMP

The Year 6 students have been busy preparing and

planning for their exciting trip to Broome Camp

School for most of this year. I joined parents to

farewell the excited bus load before 7am on

Monday! Miss Oakley and Mr Young will be

supervising and looking forward to watching the

Year 6’s build independence and confidence as they

step out of their comfort zone for a week. Many fun

excursions and activities are planned and we're sure

everyone will make many lasting memories of their

final year of primary school. We will update on

Facebook!

MASTERS OF BEHAVIOUR On Monday 25th June we will be holding the

Masters of Behaviour reward! This celebration will

consist of free dress, an ice cream and an extended

play at lunch. Children who have achieved level 3

Mastery in one or more of the 4 school behaviour

expectations of Respect, Safety, Excellence and

Responsibility will be invited to attend.

Congratulations to those students who have

achieved mastery! Masters will receive an invite this

week

PARTNERSHIPS

LAPATHON What a great event this was again this year! It was

great to see so many parents support their children.

Students certainly had great fun while exercising!

Thank you to Mr Young and staff for ensuring the

event ran smoothly. Please remember to bring in any

Lapathon money before Friday 22 June. All funds

raised will be spent painting play activities around our

school grounds such as hopscotch, targets, and other

interactive games.

APEX

A huge thank you to the

Karratha APEX Club for their

kind donation of a brand new

washing machine for our

Breakfast Club. We have invited

a member of the club to our first

assembly next term so that we

can formally show our

appreciation. APEX, your

community spirt and support is

very much appreciated!

CROSS COUNTRY

Congratulations to all our students for their amazing

resilience, persistence and general sportsmanship

shown at our Faction Cross Country last Wednesday.

Thanks to parents for their support and staff for their

organisation, in particular Mr Young. Medallions were

presented to 1st, 2nd & 3rd placegetters at assembly

last Thursday.

These students will now go on to represent our school

at the Interschool Cross Country event held in

Dampier on Wednesday 27 June.

GARDENING CLUB

Our Gardening Club helped to plant trees along

Dampier Highway last week to highlight World

Environment Day. Thanks to Mr Young, Ms Konig

and Horizon Power for organising the event. The

Gardening Club are working hard at the moment

propagating plants to sell at our 40th Anniversary

Fete.
