OBJECTIVE

Assessment of the Open Source SALOME software for the use as design platform for In Vessel Components

In 2012, European Fusion Development Agreement (EFDA) task to compare platforms : SALOME and ANSYS WB.Build a computation chain similar to the ANSYS WB workflow but built with the Open Source SALOME platform, and using in-house codes . Evaluation performed on a scenario where SALOME is used to chain together CEA codes (for instance, CAST3M, Trio-U, TRIPOLI).

Assessment of the Open Source SALOME software for the use as design platform for In Vessel Components• Thermal-hydraulic / thermal calculations to assess the performances of t

he BU in terms of the heat extraction capability. Results from neutronic calculations as input for heat sources, namely the breakdown of the power deposited in the subcomponents of the TBM as well as the corresponding radial and poloidal power density distributions. Simplified thermal hydraulic modeling : explicit 1D FE model of the He flow ; where heat exchange with coolant takes place the FE mesh has been coupled with the 3D FE mesh ; 1D FE model allows calculating the temperature evolution along the hel ium flow pathon the basis of the local enthalpy balance between the coolant and the structure; Gnielinsky correlation to estimate HTC as a function of fluid properties, flow parameters, bulk temperature of the fluid and wall temperatureSteady state analyses at first followed by transient analysis taking into account the characteristics of a typical ITER D-T plasma pulses. .

• Thermo-mechanical calculationsResulting temperature field in the box structure Mechanical loads corresponding to the assessed situation (pressure…)

• Relevant stress/strain intensities in the subcomponents identified and compared to allowable limits defined by design codes (SDC IC, RCC MRx) in case of normal and accidental (LOCA) situations.

CAD stage: import of the CAD model from a STEP file; creation of the CAD model directly with SALOME toolsability of SALOME to provide proper input for the different codes of the workflow (either via mesh or CAD transmission); ability of SALOME to provide interface tools for the data transfer between the different codes of the workflow.

Development of an operator automatically linking the temperature of the fluid line with the one of the wall

option TUYA (e.g. RIG1 = RELA TUYA GEOM1 GEOM2 CRIT ); Assuming a pipe (GEOM1 seg2 or seg3) in which the temperature of the fluid can be considered constant this operation will impose that each points of GEO2 has the same temperature as its projected point on the line . The distance between one point and its projected one must be less than CRIT.
