INSTALLATION

Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by “do-it-yourselfers.”

NOTICE:• Always use, Honda Genuine Long Life Antifreeze/

Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.

• To avoid burning out the element, do not operate the engine block heater until it is installed in the vehicle and you have added coolant.

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.2. Allow the engine and all cooling system components

to cool down.

3. Place a clean drain pan under the radiator drain plug, then remove the radiator drain plug from the bottom of the radiator to drain the coolant. Remove the radiator cap to increase the flow.

NOTICE: Radiator coolant will damage the paint. Quickly rinse any spilled coolant from the paint.

4. Drain the coolant completely, then install the radiator cap.

5. Remove the self-tapping screws, and clips from the left front wheel arch protector as shown.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 on the right side of the vehicle.8. Remove the front bumper:

• Remove the self-tapping screws and clips as shown.

• With the help of an assistant, release the seven retaining tabs on each side.

• With the help of an assistant, remove the front bumper and unplug the vehicle connectors (if equipped).

• Place the front bumper on a blanket.

9. Pull away the upper shutter grille duct, and remove the lower shutter grille duct.

11. Remove the air cleaner:• Unplug the vehicle connector, and release the

harness holder.• Remove the two washer-bolts.

12. Using a utility knife, cut out the lower shutter grille duct as shown. Remove any burrs.

13. Install the lower shutter grille duct.

14. Using a tape measure, measure and mark the heater harness as shown. , , , ,and .

15. Locate and remove the drain bolt and washer. Coolant remaining in the engine jackets flows out of the hole when the drain bolt is removed. Retain the drain bolt; it will be used if the engine block heater is removed. NOTE: Use a new washer if the drain bolt is installed.

16. Install the engine block heater with the aluminum washer into the bolt hole using a 24 mm socket. Torque the engine block heater to 80 N·m (59 lb·ft).

17. Plug the heater harness connector to the engine block heater. Make sure the heater harness connector is fully seated in the engine block heater.

18. Route the heater harness in the direction shown, and secure it to the vehicle harness and vehicle connectors with two brown wire ties at the point and .

19. Route the heater harness as shown. Line up the point on the heater harness with the edge of the vehicle bracket, and secure the heater harness to the vehicle bracket with one brown wire tie.

20. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness with one brown wire tie.

21. Route the heater harness under the left headlight, and secure it to the vehicle harness with one brown wire tie and one black wire tie.

22. Route the heater harness down under the front bumper beam, and secure it to the vehicle harness with one black wire tie at the point .

23. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness with one black wire tie.

24. Bundle up the excess heater harness, and secure it to the vehicle harness with one black wire tie.

25. Pull away the upper shutter grille duct, and route the heater harness through the hole on the lower shutter grille duct cutout in step 12. Secure the heater harness to the bracket on the lower shutter grille with one black wire tie at the point .

26. With the help of an assistant, bring the front bumper close to the vehicle. Route the heater harness through the center lower grille, then install the front bumper.

27. Secure the heater harness to the center lower grille with one black wire tie.

28. Secure the protective cap to the center lower grille as shown, and plug the heater harness connector to the protective cap.

29. Install all removed parts.30. Install the radiator drain plug.31. Remove the radiator cap, and fill the system with the

recommended coolant. Follow the instructions in the service information to fill the cooling system and check for leaks. Make sure there are no leaks around the engine block heater.

32. Make sure that the heater harness is routed properly and all connectors are plugged in.

33. Install the radiator cap.34. Put the drain bolt (removed in step 15) in the glove

box.35. Connect the negative cable to the battery.36. Press and hold the audio unit power button for 2

seconds to restore audio and navi (if equipped) system functions.

37. Set the clock on vehicles without navigation.38. If necessary, restore the systems back to normal

operation as described in the service information.
