With over 34 years in continuous employment and a total of about 7 days sickness I can claim to be a reliable and conscientious employee with a good breadth of experience in all aspects of how a medium sized company operates. I use my lateral thinking skills to take an active part in meetings and suggestion schemes. I enjoy working on my own initiative but have also managed a small team of specialists. Anything I do not understand I research in my own time and rarely feel the need for formal training.

Personal Development PlanOver the next few months I plan to use study guides / books to improve my skills in Office 2007 VBA, Visual Studio, ASP.NET and web design/building using products such as Dreamweaver / Java.

Career ObjectivesDespite spending over 30 years in the computer industry I feel I am in no way tied to IT. I have a reasonable amount of financial security so I can afford to take a job that pays less than £12,000 (although more would be nice). I would be a valuable resource in most small companies looking for a source of good advice /consultancy without having to employ expensive contractors / consultants. I estimate I saved my last employer saved over £300,000 in this capacity.

Retirement PlanAlthough retirement is 7 years away I have several projects ‘on the drawing board’ . I would like to write a book about the history of computing in Hull with material/anecdotes gleaned from companies and individuals. I would also like to embark on a lecture tour around schools with equipment / visuals about the history of computing.I have contributed to Better Regulation Executive and may like to take an active part in local government .

Seven Seas Reference (transcript)Richard Spurr was employed by Seven Seas Ltd from 1st April 1986 to 22nd August 2008.Richard was initially appointed as an Analyst/Programmer before being promoted to Information Technology Manager in 1993 and subsequently taking up the post of Systems Support Manager with responsibility for IT procurement, networking and communications infrastructure and general support of various business applications.Richard has developed many original technology solutions to a variety of business problems that have presented and has never been afraid to think ‘outside of the box’ during his long period of service.Richard has an exemplary attendance record with only 4 days of sickness in the last 22 years.
