Word Wall Words –
I-E (long I sound)
I made these cards to supplement my other I-E pack in response to student needs.
I’ve had some students who have struggled with the idea of adding an ‘e’ to make the long vowel sound. Adding the dual cards, which show a short vowel word, along with the word that is made when you add the ‘e’, has been a good way to help these children ‘get’ the concept of the helping ‘e’ at the end of the word.
Once I’d made these additional words, I added a few more I-E words, since I was at it. You can use all of the words in this pack and my other pack, or only a few of them – it’s up to you. You can also differentiate, giving the trickier words to some groups/children while other groups practice with the simpler words only.
