The popularity of this type of singing is often credited to the fact that the harmony is so close that it seems like one voice, and it’s difficult to determine where one brother starts and the other begins. From the early field recordings of unsung Appalachian families to the burgeoning recording careers of brother acts like Bill and Charlie Monroe, the sounds of brothers singing together with their genetically similar vocal tones have long attracted music lovers and influenced generations of singers including the Beatles and Buck Owens.
